They say that Philippine showbiz is like Philippine politics. Now, even former Makati City congressman a Teddy Boy Locsin Jr. has to agree.

This, after the outspoken Twitterati drew parallels between the attempts to disqualify “strong” presidential candidates like Senator Grace Poe and the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) controversy on the disqualification of the John Lloyd Cruz-starrer “Honor Thy Father” from the Best Picture race.

“What was the ground?” asked Locsin via Twitter upon learning of the Erik Matti film’s exclusion in the consideration for the major award.

“I find it disquieting, this natural-born fucking Filipino proclivity to DQ what it can’t beat,” the former politiko said, an obvious reference to 47-year-old foundling Poe who last week was deemed disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc.

Poe, still a leader in the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey (tied with Vice President Jejomar Binay), has since won a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the Comelec decision.

Some sectors are also seeking the disqualification of PDP-Laban bet Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who has either ranked first or second in previous popularity polls.

Honor Thy Father, a dark film about a troubled family, was seen as a strong contender for Best Picture in the 2015 MMFF but its producers’ alleged failure to disclose the movie’s participation in this year’s Cinema One Originals Festival caused it to be disqualified.

In the end, romantic comedy #WalangForever took home the coveted plum.

As for Poe, she still awaits her ultimate fate at the hands of the Supreme Court (SC) regarding her disqualification case. Locsin is in favor of letting the lady solon run for president.
