After having avoided

Retired policeman Wally Sombero has finally manned up and returned to the country Tuesday morning (February 14).

Acting on the instructions of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, members of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were on-hand at the airport to ensure Sombero’s safe arrival.

Sombrero earlier avoided facing a Senate probe on the P50-million BI bribery scandal, wherein he is a focal person.

“Considering that Mr. Sombero is a vital witness to the on-going Senate investigation, particularly by the Blue Ribbon Committee, on the alleged bribery/extortion in the BI, his security preparation should be in place,” Aguirre informed the two bureaus in a memorandum.

In his memorandum, Aguirre informed both the BI and NBI that he received information that Sombero was expected to arrive via Philippine Airlines flight from Vancouver, Canada.

Sombero is scheduled to appear on February 16 before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chaired by Senator Richard Gordon.
