Just like President Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Manny Pacquiao wants those found guilty of heinous crimes to be put to death under the law through hanging.
Pacquiao, a born-again Christian, said he prefers hanging over the lethal injection since doctors, the professionals required to carry out the procedure, are prohibited to kill people on purpose.
“Para sa akin bitay, hanging. May batas din ang mga duktor na bawal silang pumatay ng tao,” he said when asked what his preferred mode of carrying out the death penalty is.
Although hanging may be considered more barbaric than lethal injection, the boxing champ said death row inmates brought it upon themselves to suffer such a cruel fate when they committed heinous crimes such as rape and murder.
Proposals to reinstate capital punishment, which has been suspended since 2006, have been filed in the Senate and House of Representatives.
