Trump [relishes] confrontation, where other politicians would seek to minimize it … ‘Isn’t a Trump rally much more exciting than these other ones?’ Trump said on Wednesday as police escorted a protester yelling, ‘Trump’s a racist’ from a rally in Worcester, Mass. ‘That kind of stuff only adds to the excitement’ …

“Trump’s rallies seem to be more turbulent than those of any presidential candidate since the ‘60s, with a clash of opposing cultural factions reminiscent of those outside abortion clinics or the Supreme Court on the day of a divisive decision is announced. … While Black Lives Matter protesters have interrupted several events for Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders ... Trump is the only Republican candidate they have regularly targeted to date. …

“[A] campaign official … said that Trump had become a victim of his own success. We were privileged to glimpse Eleanor’s joyful, generous, full-to-bursting life. She was a super-loyal Playbooker who would call for personal service if email (hers or ours) was acting up. Her six children called her “EJW NEWS,” for her initials, (originally behind her back, but she loved it when she found out), for her penchant for taking millions of photos, and even shouldering a massive VHS camera in the early days of video. Her favorite camera – a Kodak 5x with optical zoom (she had a new one, but never quite mastered it) – sat in a place of honor at yesterday’s packed memorial service. Her grandchildren (“The Grands”) spoke, and her great-grandchildren sang “Amazing Graze.”

Eleanor was Facebook before the Internet, at first mailing away rolls of film to save money on developing, and later keeping Rite Aid in business. She’d always get four or five copies, to share. She was saluted as the only person known to print out photos from Facebook – dozens of them – and mail them off to people who’d enjoy them. She was in on the joke: Among her stacks of photos, her kids found a cartoon showing a pack of coyotes devouring their kill as one, with glasses, took a flash picture. The caption: “For crying out loud, [Eleanor]. You gotta drag that thing out EVERY time we all get together?”

Eleanor died Wednesday at 86, and she left it all on the diamond: Her latest neat stack of small charitable donations – the widow’s mite – was dated last week, and she had just been to a turkey supper at the First Congregational Church of Lincoln, where she was the official card-sender. Eleanor grew up in such old-school times that when she played basketball at Mattanawcook Academy (Class of ’47), she had to dodge the potbelly wood stove at center court.

She was laid to rest in a baseball-shaped urn with the Boston Red Sox logo and a plaque saying: “Major League Baseball recognizes Eleanor Worcester as a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.” Her service, which included a seventh-inning stretch, finished with “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Auntie Eleanor: Thank you for the love, the good times, the memories, and the perfect example. I’ll take pictures for ya.

CLICKER: “2016 Republican National Convention unveils logo, designed by Cleveland firm,” by Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Andrew J.
