It’s Thursday morning, and let’s face it, while there’s lots going on in the Garden State, the only thing people interested in New Jersey politics care about is how Chris Christie did in the first GOP presidential debate.

Rutgers-Eagleton Poll: Christie Hits New Low with NJ Voters
As Gov. Chris Christie campaigns to win over voters in New Hampshire and Iowa, voters back home are more dissatisfied with him than ever, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll. Just 30 percent of New Jersey registered voters have a favorable opinion of Christie, an eight-point drop since April and less than half his favorable rating following his November 2013 re-election; 59 percent are now unfavorable, an 11-point increase since April. Christie’s favorability has mostly been on a downward spiral since August 2014.

A backroom war in LD40: The story behind the Dems’ raucous party
The front door to the Grand Chalet was open and inside at the bar among a crowd of imbibing Passaic County Democrats one half expected to see the grinning face of Totowa Republican Peter Murphy, newly enabled to return to the executive leadership fold of the Passaic County Republican Committee.

Grassroots political leader Ras Baraka stood on these steps a year ago when he won the mayor’s race and proceeded to “swear in” those community members who backed him, and now Baraka wants to remind residents that a people power mayoralty means that people themselves must assume the command position in the fight against violence.

Does Carmelo Garcia transcend Hoboken’s divisions?
Assemblyman Carmelo Garcia (D-33) is running to represent Hoboken’s 6th Ward on the City Council because he believes he transcends divisions in Hoboken between long-time residents and the younger, more-recently-arrived families and Manhattan commuters. Despite past tensions with Mayor Dawn Zimmer—a representative of Hoboken’s new faction—and former state Senator Bernie Kenny—a lifer—Garcia said he has the “distinction” and experience to change the Hoboken council.

Why (and how) Chris Christie needs to ramp up his style game
Chris Christie has been mocked — and done the mocking himself — for many questionable fashion choices, including the fused-to-his-flesh
fleece he donned in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the “lucky” Great Pumpkin-esque sweater he wore during Cowboys games last season, and his
affinity for over-the-belly pleated khakis. But all of these paled in comparison to the sight of Christie squeezed into stretchy white
baseball pants that hugged every curve — every single one — at a charity baseball game in June.

NJSPBA president: Police and firefighter pensions under control
Gov. Chris Christie insists that if the underfunded public worker pension system isn’t reformed it will mean huge tax hikes or a permanently busted budget. The president of the State Police Benevolent Association calls that a scare tactic that’s not based on fact. He
says the pension system for law enforcement officers and firefighters is healthy, structurally sound and 100 percent funded by employers and employees alike. Pat Colligan, president of the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association told NJTV News Anchor Mary Alice
Williams how full pension funding is possible for firefighters and police officers.
