PATNA: More than 25 persons have been killed and scores of others injured as lightning struck various parts of Bihar yesterday, official sources said today.

Six persons died after being struck by lighting in two incidents in the villages under Town and Obra blocks of Bihar’s Aurangabad district last evening, the sources said.

Of the six, four boys were fatally hit by lighting while they were playing with some other children in Barwa village, while two farmers died due to similar reasons in Belgaon village, they said.

In Banka district, five persons, identified as Sukhlal Hansda (33), Ramlal Hansda (50) died on the spot after being struck by lighting in Simra village while they were working in a field, the sources said.

Two others — Marcus Marandi (13) and Dula Murmu (22) — died in Khota village while an 18-year-old youth died due to similar reasons in Kasiyatikar village.

Three persons, identified as Laxman Yadav (25), a tractor driver, died after bing hit by lightning in Khaira village in Jamui district, they said, adding two women identified as Murkhi Devi (60) and Krishna Tanti (30) died due to similar reasons in Gopalpur village of the same district.

In Supaul district, a private school principal Kailash Yadav and Umesh Mukhiya were killed and six others injured after lighting struck them in the school premises in a village under Bairo panchayat.

A woman, Mahtun Khatun and an unidentified 12-year-old boy died in similar incidents in villages under Gohna and Chilauni Dakshini panchayats respectively.

One Ramprit Yadav was fatally struck by lightning in Dullapur village of Sheikhpura district, the sources said.

Lighting accommpanied by heavy rains claimed one life each in Bhojpur, Katihar, Patna, Gaya and Rohtas districts, they said.

Two persons, including a Buxar central jail inmate Jitendra Kumar Singh, suffered burn injuries after being struck by lightning in Buxar district, the sources added.
