Well, the first week of May was pretty quiet. So that’s nice! I found just 16 people who accidentally shot themselves, seven kids who were accidentally shot, four people who accidentally fired guns they were cleaning (three people shot themselves that way, and one fired into his neighbor’s house), plus the usual smattering of people who accidentally fired guns while out shopping or dining, people accidentally shot while hunting, or accidentally shot with guns they brought with them to work. You know, the usual.
The week did feature yet another “trained” concealed carry permit holder who accidentally shot someone with a gun she’d brought into an area in which firearms were strictly prohibited, in this case, the bathroom of a South Carolina hospital. Hey! They’re right! Gun-free zones really are magnets for shooters and other criminals! Well, just like being “responsible,” I guess some people are law-abiding until they’re not.
Here’s one you don’t see every day: A Florida man accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun. He says he was holding it against his chest so his dog wouldn’t jump up on it and cause an accident. That’s a nice thought, though unloading it would probably prevent the dog from causing an accident even if he did jump on it. Anyway, he didn’t unload it, and while cleaning it, he heard a strange, loud “bang” noise, then felt a sharp pain and collapsed. What could it have been? It’s a mystery!
That can only be appropriately followed by the story of another Florida man, of course. This time, it’s the hard-working part-time corrections officer who accidentally shot himself while putting his gun away just before a job interview for part-time work as a school janitor. Here’s hoping he lands on his feet. For the record, a terrible answer to the “Where do you see yourself in five years?” job interview question is, “In the emergency room.”

PUEBLO, CO, 5/01/16: A man reportedly shot himself in his hand Sunday while cleaning a gun, according to a police report. Aundrey Fields, 20, was treated at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center for his injuries. “It seemed like there was gun powder near the area of the wound, which would indicate that the barrel of the gun was very close to his left hand,” the report stated. Police charged him with disorderly conduct with a firearm.
MURFREESBORO, TN, 5/01/16: A man accidentally shot himself in the foot on Sunday afternoon in Murfreesboro. A woman who was in the home at the time of the accidental shooting told police that she was in the kitchen when the 37 year old victim shot himself while cleaning his Mossberg shotgun. A police report shows the Claydon Court man told was in his bedroom when the shotgun discharged. After he shot himself, he started screaming for help. The female who was in the other room quickly dialed 9-1-1. The victim was rushed to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro with serious, but non-life threatening wounds. No charges of wrong doing have been filed and the case was labeled as an "Accidental Shooting."
PARSIPPANY, NJ, 5/01/16: Two coin show vendors suffered minor injuries after one accidently discharged a gun and struck both of them, police said. At about 1:01 PM May 1, Parsippany Police and Car 65 Ambulance personnel responded to the Parsippany Police Athletic League building on Baldwin Road for a report of a possible accidental discharge of a firearm, Officer Remo D’Alessandro said. Upon arrival, officers met with the man accused of discharging the weapon - William Wetzler, 58, of Hasbrouck Heights - who was a vendor at the coin show taking place in the building, D’Alessandro said. Wetzler was in possession of a silver Walther PPK, a 9MM handgun, which he allegedly accidentally discharged while it was in his pocket, D’Alessandro said. The discharged round struck the ground, ricocheted, and struck the victim, a 67-year-old Toms River man who was also a vendor at the show, D’Alessandro said. Both Wetzler and the 67-year-old man suffered non-life threatening minor injuries and did not need medical attention, D’Alessandro said. Wetzler was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and negligently discharging a firearm in a public location. He was released pending a court appearance.
MORETOWN, VT, 5/01/16: Vermont State Police say a 16-year-old girl suffered minor injuries after she was struck by several shotgun pellets while turkey hunting from a camouflage blind. Police said 48-year-old Peter Noack, of Waitsfield, was hunting from a separate hunting blind on Sunday morning in Moretown. Neither he nor the teen, Cheyanne Green, of Montpelier, knew the other was hunting from the same field. Police said Noack left his blind and walked toward some turkeys along the edge of some woods. He positioned himself behind a tree and as the turkeys were entering the woods, he took a shot with a 12-gauge shotgun. Green was 70 to 80 yards away from Noack inside her blind at the time, just inside the wood line. Police and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife, Enforcement Division are investigating.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN, 5/01/16: The mother of a 10-year-old Indianapolis boy who police say accidentally shot and killed himself has a message for other parents. Police say Noah Sarver somehow found a gun while staying at his father's house near Vermont and Gale Streets last Sunday, and they believe he accidentally pulled the trigger. Noah's mom, April, says her oldest son loved basketball and video games. "That little boy, like, he really really made me, like I am proud, I am definitely proud to be his mom," said April. April says she talked to Noah about gun safety after hearing about a two-year-old who accidentally shot and killed himself. "I just talked to him about guns because of the stuff that's going on, letting him know don't play with them, and honestly I really think my baby just didn't think that gun was loaded," said April. Police still don't know where Noah got the gun. Neighbors say he may have found it in an alley, but investigators will only say they're tracing the gun and its owner. "I really, really hope, parents please take this as a wake up call on these guns," said April.
ARLINGTON, TX, 5/01/16: A man has been injured in an accidental shooting that happened overnight in east Arlington, police said. The Arlington Police Department said that one man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a group of people accidentally fired a gun. A group of people were messing around with a gun in a backyard along Bahar Street when it fired and hit a man. Police said that man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition is not known at this time. Arlington police are looking for the suspected shooter who left the scene. They do believe that alcohol was a factor.
DALLAS, TX, 5/02/16: A shooting at an Oak Cliff high school sent one student to the hospital Monday morning, police say. Officers were called to reports of a shooting at Justin F. Kimball High School at 3600 Westmoreland Road shortly after 11 AM. According to a Dallas ISD tweet, the student “inadvertently shot himself with a single-shot revolver at the end of a first period.” The incident is under investigation. School officials say the campus has been secured and classes are expected to resume soon.
SAN ANTONIO, TX, 5/02/16: A man accidentally discharged his firearm while driving Monday, striking himself in the leg, police said. The incident happened while a 2-year-old passenger sat inside of the vehicle, said police. The incident took place around 8:30 AM on U.S. Highway 281 northbound near Sandau Road and Isom Road. The man told police that he was unaware the gun was loaded. He said the gun was in the console of his car when he decided to move the firearm and it misfired striking him in the leg. According to police, only the man was injured. No information has been released concerning the man's condition at this time.
MUNCIE, IN, 5/02/16: Tyler James Mumpower, who will observe his 21st birthday on Wednesday, might regret a call he placed to 911 late Monday. Mumpower, of the 2500 block of South Rochester Avenue, made the call to dispatchers from a convenience store at Hoyt and Port avenues shortly before 11 PM. He would tell police his cousin – Brandon Michael Richards, 27, of Muncie – had been threatening him over a $60 drug-related debt, and on Monday sent him a cellphone photo of an AR-15 rifle. A short time later, Mumpower said, that weapon was fired outside his home, in an apparent bid to intimidate him. At the same convenience store, police encountered none other than Mumpower’s cousin, Richards, in a van driven by his friend, Jaron Christopher Terry, 21, also of Muncie. Terry agreed to allow officers to search the van. They found an AR-15 reported stolen from a westside home in January. The weapon had apparently been fired in the van, investigators said, with a bullet found lodged in a door. According to Richards and Terry, Mumpower had contacted them and said he knew a person who would buy Xanax pills that Terry had obtained. The men said Mumpower had them drive him to a home along 19th Street, where he took the prescription medication, ostensibly to be delivered to the “customer.” However, Mumpower instead fled with the Xanax, they said. A short time later, Terry was “messing around” with the AR-15, and it accidentally discharged in the van, Richards told officers. All three men were preliminarily charged with dealing in a controlled substance. Richards was being held in the Delaware County jail under a $5,000 bond. Mumpower changed his story more than once after being presented with contradictory evidence, including text exchanges, according to affidavits. He was also preliminarily charged with obstruction of justice. His bond was set at $10,000. Terry – found to be in possession of more Xanax pills, and a “white powder,” officers said – was also preliminarily charged with possession of a controlled substance and theft of a firearm. He was being held under a $15,000 bond. Terry is set to stand trial in July on two counts of criminal recklessness filed in a Marion County court last October. Richards was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor in 2012.
BOSTON, MA, 5/02/16: Boston Police confirmed that an officer accidentally discharged a weapon on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain Monday afternoon. Boston Police Department spokesperson Myeshia Henderson told Jamaica Plain News that the incident occurred at around 1:40 PM at the intersection of Centre Street and Seaverns Avenue. No injuries were reported. Several individuals on Twitter noted a police presence and police tape outside City Feed on Centre Street. Boston Police are investigating the incident.
OMAHA, NE, 5/02/16: A Sarpy County man could face charges after accidentally shooting himself in the leg last evening. Deputies and Omaha Firefighters were called to a home near 147th and Echo Hills drive around 6:15 Monday night after 40 year old Shawn Capps shot himself while trying to install a homemade stock on a 12 gauge short shotgun in the garage. Deputies say during the installation Capps slammed the shotgun on the ground and a round discharged into his right thigh. Capps was taken to Nebraska Medicine where he underwent surgery and remains in intensive care due to his injuries. Deputies returned to the home about four hours later with a search warrant. They found a small amount of methamphetamine and various types of ammunition that could belong to Capps. Once deputies complete their investigation, they plan to meet with the Sarpy County Attorney's office to discuss possible felony charges against Capps. He could face charges of Possession of a Short Shotgun, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Prohibited Person and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
CHICO, CA, 5/02/16: A man is recovering after he accidentally shot himself in the face and neck. Police said they followed a blood trail to the man's home to determine what happened. Several people called 911 just before 8 PM Monday, when they saw a man walking down East Avenue near Floral Avenue in Chico. According to a news release from Chico Police Department, officers found the 45-year-old man bleeding profusely from his face and neck. At the time, he couldn't tell them what happened. Police followed the blood trail to the man's nearby home, where they found evidence that a gun had been fired. The man later confirmed he had accidentally shot himself while handling the gun. He was treated at Enloe Medical Center and is expected to survive.
PICAYUNE, MS, 5/03/16: A 20-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after he was accidentally shot in the back with a 12-gauge shotgun Tuesday night. Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the man who discharged the gun is a friend of the victim, and no criminal charges have been filed. Tucker said the call came in around 8:15 PM, and deputies responded to the Willow Bend Mobile Home Park on Highway 11 South. That’s where deputies found a man lying in the road suffering from a single shotgun wound to the back. Tucker said the victim was alert and responsive when he was taken to Highland Community Hospital. The man is listed in stable condition. According to authorities, the man who was shot told investigators a friend who lives with him in the trailer park accidentally discharged the weapon while he was moving it. Tucker said he had only had the gun for a few months and was unfamiliar with the firearm. Tucker said the 20-year-old man who discharged the weapon ran from the scene after it went off, but he was picked up and interviewed by deputies about three hours later.
LITTLE ROCK, AR, 5/03/16: Little Rock police on Tuesday arrested a man who said he accidentally fired a shotgun through his neighbor's bedroom wall, according to an arrest report. Officers were called about 4 AM to an apartment building at 1405 E. 11th St., off Hanger Street on the city's east side. A resident showed officers a hole in the wall next to his bed, where he had been sleeping, the report states. There were no injuries. The resident was not identified in the report. Police said a man next door, Terry Lezell Rowe, 32, told officers he'd accidentally a fired a shotgun. He was arrested. Further details weren't immediately available. Rowe was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony, and negligent discharge of a firearm within city city limits. He was being held in the Pulaski County jail late Tuesday.
GLADWIN, MI, 5/04/16: A three-year-old child was injured Wednesday evening after finding his father’s pistol and accidentally shooting himself. According to a press release from the Gladwin County Sheriff Department, deputies were dispatched to the Emergency Room of MidMichigan Medical Center–Gladwin to investigate a gun shot wound. Upon arrival, an officer identified the victim as a three-year-old boy who was being treated for a gunshot wound to his left upper arm. The officer spoke with the father of the victim, who was identified as a 23-year-old Gladwin man. During the initial contact, it was reported that the child had picked up an unsecured 9 mm pistol while watching television. It was further alleged that the boy accidentally pulled the trigger, which resulted in the self-inflicted gunshot wound. The boy’s father reported that he immediately took the child to MidMichigan Medical Center–Gladwin, where the wound was treated. The child was stable and conscious at the time of the report, and was subsequently taken by helicopter to Hurley Medical Center for further treatment. Officers conducted a search of the home where the boy had been shot. Officers recovered a 9 mm pistol from the residence that belonged to the father. Sheriff Mike Shea stressed the importance of responsible gun ownership. “I acknowledge and support responsible gun ownership, but when there are kids, particularly little kids, in the house, you have to take steps to ensure their safety when there are guns in the home,” he said. “Kids are inquisitive. We all know that. You have to go the extra mile to protect them.” The complaint has been forwarded to the Gladwin County Prosecutor for review. MORE: The man whose three-year-old son accidentally shot himself after finding a pistol pleaded guilty Monday, May 16 in 55th Circuit Court to Weapons–Firearms Careless Discharge. Joshua Richard Dikowski, 23, of Gladwin, was originally charged on May 4 with one count of Weapons-Firearms Careless Discharge With Injury; and one count of Child Abuse-3rd Degree.
WAITSFIELD, VT, 5/04/16: State police say a 13-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the foot while hunting in Waitsfield. Authorities say the boy accidentally fired his weapon Wednesday afternoon and shot himself in his left foot while hunting on a property in the town. The boy was taken to a hospital and was expected to be released later Wednesday. State police did not release his name because he's a juvenile. No other injuries were reported.
PARMA, OH, 5/04/16: A housing authority police officer suffered a gunshot wound in the leg Wednesday night at the Cuyahoga Community College's Western Campus firing range after a gun jammed. A group of Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority police officers were using the gun range at the Parma campus after 9 PM when one of the officer's gun jammed, according to an email sent to Tri-C faculty Wednesday. Another CMHA officer who is a range instructor came over to the officer to help fix the gun, a campus spokesman said. While they were working on the gun, it accidentally fired. The bullet struck the officer in the leg, the email said. The officer was taken to Parma General Hospital. His condition was stable, and his injury was not life-threatening, campus spokesman John Horton said. CMHA police chief Andy Gonzalez was not immediately available for comment Thursday morning, but said in a text message that the officer was "fine." The email did not say whether the officer shot himself, or if the range instructor accidentally fired the gun. Tri-C police and CMHA police are investigating.
BROOK PARK, OH, 5/04/16: Discharge of firearm, Burton Drive: A man was arrested at about 5 PM May 4 after he accidentally fired an AR-15 rifle in his front yard. The man had been emptying the weapon when it fired. The bullet struck a concrete walkway.
LEXINGTON, SC, 5/04/16: A Leesville woman is facing charges after a handgun she was allegedly carrying while inside the restroom of an area hospital discharged hitting a victim. Authorities say 59-year-old Angelia Swygert Hawes, concealed a .25 caliber handgun in her purse while she was in the Lexington Medical Center on May 4. Investigators said the firearm accidentally discharged inside the restroom of the hospital’s South Tower lobby. The victim suffered a non life-threatening injury, according to officials. Officials say Hawes is a concealed weapons permit holder and is charged with carrying a concealable weapon into a restricted place. South Carolina’s concealed weapons permit statute notes a “hospital, medical clinic, doctor’s office, or any other facility where medical services or procedures are performed unless expressly authorized by the employer…” as locations where a CWP holder is not authorized to carry a concealable weapon. She was released from the Lexington County Detention Center Wednesday morning on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
DELTONA, FL, 5/05/16: A Deltona man shot himself while cleaning a handgun but did not discover the bullet hole in his arm until three days later when he changed shirts, Volusia County sheriff's deputies said. Deputies were called to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City on Saturday where Michael Blevins, 37, had checked himself after discovering the bullet wound, investigators said. Blevins told deputies that on Thursday he was cleaning a .22 caliber pistol in the living room of his Whitewood Drive home, a report stated. Blevins could not be reached Monday as his voicemail was full. The Deltona resident told deputies he held the gun against his chest so his dog wouldn't jump up near it. But as Blevins stood up he felt a sharp pain, causing his back to give out, and he fell face down. Blevins said he heard a loud gunshot and then he hit his face against the edge of a glass coffee table, the report said. Blevins said he did not feel any pain from the gunshot, possibly because of the medicine he takes for an old back injury, and only felt pain above his left eyebrow that got cut when he hit the table, deputies said. Blevins said he was wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt and did not notice the injury on his left arm as he went about his normal routine for the next two days. It was not until the third day on Saturday when Blevins changed into a light brown shirt, which revealed the blood stains, deputies said. Blevins removed the shirt and noticed an entrance and exit wound on his arm that was barely bleeding at the time because the wound had cauterized, deputies said. Deputies accompanied Blevins to his home after he was discharged and, after examining the scene, determined Blevins accidentally shot himself, the report concluded.
NEWPORT NEWS, VA, 5/05/16: A Newport News man is facing charges after police say the gun he was cleaning fired a shot into his neighbor's home. The Daily Press reports 49-year-old Christopher A. Thomas is charged with one count each of reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm within the city limits. Officers were called Thursday to a home, where a woman told police that she heard a sound before finding a hole, and later a bullet, in her wall. The woman and officers spoke to Thomas, who is her neighbor. He told police that his gun had fired while he was cleaning the weapon that night. It isn't immediately clear if Thomas has an attorney to comment on the charges.
ROANOKE, VA, 5/06/15: An employee at a large gun retailer in northwest Roanoke was hospitalized Friday after she shot herself, police and the retailer said. The employee at SafeSide Tactical in the 1200 block of Shenandoah Avenue shot herself in the leg about 11:52 AM, police spokesman Scott Leamon said. She was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. SafeSide Tactical said in a statement the retailer was closed for a private event, and no customers were in the building at the time of the incident. Per company policy, the employee’s loaded sidearm was unholstered off of the sales floor. The retailer said two employees — Army National Guard and Marine veterans — provided medical treatment after the employee shot herself. A manager called for police and medical response. “The handgun is currently with a third-party and will be inspected to determine whether a malfunction occurred prior the incident,” SafeSide Tactical said. No one else was injured. The retailer said it was reviewing the incident internally. The retailer said in a statement that the employee serves in an administrative role, and the incident was “not related to the functions of her position.” “All our of employees undergo required firearms safety training upon hiring, and this unfortunate incident shows that even experienced firearms owners must be ever-vigilant and aware of the responsibilities associated with safe handling,” the statement said.
PANAMA CITY, FL, 5/06/16: Records obtained by News 13 Monday revealed more information about an accidental shooting at a local elementary school. On Friday Travis Anthony Holland, 28, of Panama City, a part-time corrections officer with the Bay County Sheriff's Office was sitting in his truck in the parking lot of Patterson Elementary school reloading a small Derringer. According to a police report Holland was planning to place the gun in a secure compartment in his truck prior to an interview with the school for a part-time janitorial position when the gun fired and he was shot in the left leg. "I am thankful that God kept his hand on me. It could have gone the other way," Holland said. "And I am thankful that I get to see another day." On Friday Panama City Police investigators working in conjunction with the State Attorney's Office determined that no criminal charges will be filed. However, Holland's actions will be reviewed by his employer - BCSO - to determine if any of their policies were violated.
TWIN FALLS, ID, 5/06/16: Three students are in custody after one fired a handgun inside a Robert Stuart Middle School classroom Friday afternoon. No one was injured and police are calling the incident an “accidental discharge.” A 14-year-old boy had two guns inside his bag, said Joshua Palmer, spokesman for the Twin Falls Police Department. One gun was reported stolen and the other had an altered serial number. After questioning the 14-year-old and others, two more students were arrested, Palmer said. All three face juvenile charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, altering the serial number on a firearm, possessing a firearm on school property and unlawful discharge of a firearm. They are being held at the Snake River Juvenile Detention Center. Palmer said it’s possible an adult could be charged if one gave the guns to the students or knew they would be brought to the school. “The student was in an advisory class when the gun fired into a table leg at approximately 12:45 PM,” Twin Falls School District spokeswoman Eva Craner said in a statement. “The teacher in the classroom immediately called the principal and school resource officer who reported to the classroom within seconds of the incident. The student immediately turned the gun over to the principal, and other law enforcement officials reported to the building.” It was unclear how the gun was fired. Palmer said the student was either setting the bag down or reaching into the bag when it fired. The gun was not pointed at anyone and the student was not “displaying” it, Palmer said. The school immediately called the parents of students who were in the class when the gun fired, Craner said. Other parents were notified about 2 PM by an automated phone message from Superintendent Wiley Dobbs. The area of the school where the gun was fired was evacuated, but police directed the school not to lock down, Craner said. “(Police) determined that the situation had been contained and there was no continuing threat to students,” she said. Many of the school’s 1,000 students were off campus participating in a community clean-up project. Others who were at the school had no idea anything was awry. “Parents may have known before some students,” Craner said in a phone interview. “We do have a safety protocol and it was followed. All of the safety procedures worked very well.” It’s the first time a gun has been fired in an Idaho school since 2013 when an Idaho State University professor in Pocatello accidentally shot himself in the foot during a lecture, according to Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun research group. The after-school routine at Robert Stuart seemed uninterrupted about 3:15 p.m. as parents lined the roadway and parking lot to pick up students. But parents expressed concern about what happened even after receiving the message that the situation was under control. “You’re just never sure and you’re worried,” Arturo Rodriguez said. Rodriguez left work early Friday to pick up his daughter, who typically takes the bus home from school. The first thoughts that went through Martha Olszynski’s mind were “Columbine and Sandy Hook,” said the mother of an eighth-grade daughter. Olszynski always picks up her daughter after school, but she went to the school earlier than normal Friday immediately after receiving the automated message. “You just have a million questions,” she said. The district has a strict no-gun policy and only school resource officers are allowed to carry guns, Craner said. “While we regret that one of our students chose this action, we are relieved and heartened that our staff and law enforcement worked together to a safe conclusion,” Craner said in the statement. No one with institutional knowledge can remember a gun being fired at a Twin Falls school, Palmer said. He said there have been instances of a student bringing a gun to school in the past, but officials couldn’t recall one ever firing in a Twin Falls school. Police did not release the names of the arrested students. Twin Falls County Prosecutor Grant Loebs said he cannot comment on juvenile cases, but said nothing will happen before Monday and that they will not be arraigned in adult court.
TACOMA, WA, 5/06/16: Authorities say a 16-year-old boy suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound after trying to rob someone during a marijuana deal in Lakewood. The News Tribune reports that the teen was taken to a hospital after the Friday incident and underwent surgery for a fractured pelvis, fractured femur and damaged femoral artery. He's now being held on suspicion of first-degree robbery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm. Court documents say the teen and his friend had set up a drug deal, during which the teen showed a handgun after the friend stole marijuana from the dealer. Documents say the weapon fired as the teen went to put the gun back in his pants. Two people believed to be the teen's accomplices were arraigned Monday on first-degree robbery charges.
SMYRNA, TN, 5/07/16: A 2-year-old in Smyrna is at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville after accidentally shooting herself. Police were called to the 4000 block of Snowbird Drive at around 11 AM on Saturday for a shooting. Smyrna Police Sergeant Bobby Gibson tells FOX 17 News that the 2-year-old girl went by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Medical Center after getting a hold of a gun and accidentally shooting herself. The family of the 2-year-old says her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
WORCESTER, WI, 5/07/16: A 27-year-old Park Falls man is in the the Price County Jail after accidentally shooting another person Saturday, just outside of Phillips. The Price County Sheriff tells NewsChannel 7 Thomas E. Strube, 27, is expected to be charged with negligent handling of a firearm. According to a news release, the Price County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 8:14 PM Saturday from the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips. An employee reported a person was in front of the building with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity. It was originally reported that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Further investigation showed the gunshot wound was the result of an accidental shooting that took place in the Town of Worcester. The shooter dropped the victim off at the nursing home, believing the victim could get medical attention there. The incident remains under investigation.
LANSING, MI, 5/07/16: An 18-year-old Lansing man is recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound over the weekend, police said. The shooting happened around 4:30 AM Saturday in the 4300 block of Richmond Street, Lansing Police Department Public Information Director Robert Merritt said Monday afternoon. The man was shot in his thigh and the injury isn't life threatening, Merritt said. He added that police believe the shooting was accidental. Police received calls about gunfire in the area around 4 AM, Merritt said, but weren't able to locate anyone related to the gunfire. Police were called back to the scene about 30 minutes later for a call about a man who had been shot. Merritt said there's a chance the man will be charged in the incident.
