Ecotourism is a relatively recent concept which aims to promote eco-friendly holidays. With more and more people starting to think about the environments and how their actions affect the world they live in, ecotourism is gaining in strength and popularity.

The main aims of ecotourism are to counteract the negative impacts on the environment that traditional tourism typically has, to educate others about the environment and culture, to preserve natural areas and to contribute to sustainability and conservation efforts.

Eco Accommodation

Our eco holiday homes are just like the other eco homes that we create, except that they are generally of a larger specification than our garden studios, for example. Eco-friendly doesn’t mean cutting back on comfort and luxury either – you’ll find that your holidaymakers are just as happy, if not happier, in their eco-lodge.

All of the garden buildings we create are completely bespoke, and so you can design your eco holiday homes as you wish. If you require buildings in varying sizes (one, two, three-bedroom, etc.) and layouts, this isn’t a problem. Buildings can incorporate bathrooms and kitchens, as well as bedrooms and living areas.

Our eco buildings will also save you a substantial amount in running costs because of the way that they have been conceived. Made from sustainable and renewable materials, they come with low-cost renewable energy heating and cooling systems, as well as fantastic insulation and programmable lighting. These lower running costs should allow you to charge more reasonable prices to your customers, which is appealing to the cash-strapped public, more of whom are taking to holidaying in the UK and staying in holiday homes rather than hotels.

Staycation

In fact, the ‘staycation’ has become so popular that the word was added to the dictionary in 2010. Referring to Brits staying in the UK for their holidays, it is a direct response to a need for cheaper holidays. It also contributes to ecotourism too, because staycationers don’t need to catch a plane (notorious for high amounts of polluting carbon emissions) in order to visit their holiday home.

Our eco holiday homes are perfect for installing in some of the UK’s most beautiful and scenic locations because they’ll blend right in to the natural environment. In the UK, we’re blessed with many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the Lake District, the Costwolds and the Isle of Wight, and these should remain natural and as unspoiled as possible by installing holiday accommodation which fits with its surroundings.

It’s not just the holiday homes you should consider either when constructing an eco-friendly holiday park. Promote recycling by installing recycling bins (with instructions as to what can and can’t be recycled) in the accommodation or around the park, encourage your guests to wash their clothes at 30 degrees (if you provide a launderette), and install energy-efficient appliances, and maybe even an energy-use monitor.

There are plenty of other measures you can implement too, including installing a restrictor on the shower head to limit the flow of water, and selling eco-friendly household products (such as detergent and washing up liquid) at reception or in your shop.
