Introduction:

pFriem Family Brewers is a brewery and tasting room on the banks of the Columbia River in Hood River, OR. We are looking for an outstanding general manager to take our tasting room to the next level of professionalism and success. pFriem serves excellent Belgian and NW inspired brews and pairs them with an exceptional European-inspired with a NW flair food menu. We are looking for an experienced general manager who can continue to build our team, and bring a level of leadership, attention to detail, and management skill that our business demands and a savvy and skill that a great restaurant operation requires. This position is based in Hood River, and thus the successful candidate will have to reside, or be ready to move to the immediate area.

This is a 5 day per week position (our tasting room is open 7 days per week). You must have at least 5 years of experience in general management and have references who will sing your praises. We’re looking for people that have a passion for outstanding customer service, working in a farm to table food setting, and of course a high regard for excellent beer. You will be expected to excel in the personnel, systems, and financial management areas of the restaurant operation. You will lead periodic performance reviews with the ownership team in order to track progress and raise issues.

- General

o Oversee all aspects of restaurant operations

o Oversee all aspects of service, keeping guest satisfaction as the primary & ultimate goal

o Complete assigned duties & projects in a timely manner

o Maintain a positive & professional vibe

o Take the long view when developing strategy for the future

o Communicate daily with kitchen & FOH staff maintaining an open and cohesive atmosphere

o Write agenda & meet weekly with leadership team

o Maintain yearly calendar with important dates & appropriate planning

o Engage in industry specific research & keep a finger on the pulse of Hood River’s food & beverage scene but also the cultural scene as a whole

o Use free time wisely to stay ahead of the curve

Duties include but are not limited to:

- HR

o Interview & hire all new employees

o Maintain payroll & POS systems in regards to employee information

o Assist in orientation, training program & continuing education

- Guest Service & Staff Interaction

o Ensure assistant manager’s staff scheduling is accurate and timely

o Maintain & improve high expectations of service with both an individual & team based perspective

o Give specific, measurable, achievable, relevant & timely feedback towards the goal of continuous improvement

o Keep staff on task & double check sidework completion

o Participate in line-ups, food meetings, beverage tastings when applicable

o Stress the importance of education with all staff

o Drive sales during daily services & special events

o Work on floor providing assistance to guests & service staff

o Take care of VIPs, regulars, pFB employees & industry friends

o Deal with all guest issues of both positive & negative natures

o Be solution oriented rather than problem focused

- Business deliverables

o Manage financial centers such as payroll, AP, COGs, etc.

o Process weekly invoices & reconcile financial paperwork

o Analyze financial information focusing on continuing successful trends & generating positive growth in areas of opportunity

o Keep financial objectives in line with parameters laid out by ownership

- Food & Beverage Team

o Work directly with chefs, assistant manager to create a compelling offering for guests while maintaining financial viability

o Meet bi-monthly with team to plan staff education, generate weekly quizzes, discuss menu changes, etc.

o Keep special offerings fresh & seasonal

o Develop the team into leaders in the kitchen, on the floor & amongst the staff

- Tasting Room

o Exterior walkthrough including street fronts, windows, sidewalks, entryways

o Interior walkthrough including all areas of the restaurant plus employee area, hallways, trash room, bathrooms, office

o Turn lights up to appropriate levels & adjust throughout service

o Ensure placement of chairs & tables in dining room for service, adjusting when necessary

o Ensure placement of seating at bar, checking for clearance

o Work with kitchen managers to maintain clean & safe working environments for all staff

o Double check stocking of all soaps, toiletries, etc. to ensure guest & staff comfort

- Office

o Check voicemail, take messages, return calls

o Check email, forward messages, return emails

o Count banks & change fund, order monies & pickup if needed

o Enter financial information into appropriate reporting systems

o Enter email addresses & contact info into guest database

o Maintain clean and organized office space

o Make changes to menus & ensure proper formatting, spacing, etc.

o Print menus for service, clearing out old or ruined menus

o Double check OpenTable daily & work with host staff to keep it updated & tightly plotted

o Update website with menu changes, current events, information when necessary

o Check Facebook & Twitter accounts and update or tweet when applicable

o Keep all passive guest interfaces in good working order

- Ordering & Product Sourcing

o Order office supplies, FOH supplies, merchandise & glassware as necessary

o Ensure kitchen managers are maintaining stocking levels on all dry goods, foodstuffs, supplies, etc.

o Ensure vendors are providing adequate levels of product & service Build strong relationships with vendors, purveyors, etc.

- Events

o Liaise with kitchen, events coordinator & guests to ensure memorable celebrations, gatherings, etc.

o Events & buyouts should receive special attention
