About the Position . . .
Edgewood is looking for an On-Call Cook. This position is responsible for meal preparation for all food service program areas.
Mission Statement:
To promote the behavioral health of children, youth and families and supports a positive transition to adulthood.
Essential Functions:
• Preparation of weekly (M-F only) breakfast and lunch for Day Treatment and Residential children and their associated staff.
• Preparation of weekly (M-F only) lunch for administrative staff
• Ability to cook multiple meals, including those with special diets as well as a vegetarian option each day
• Demonstrate the ability to follow and prepare written and/or verbal recipes
• Preparation of Residential Dinners.
• Prepare food for Agency special events/catering of in-house events
• Provides assistance with other kitchen staff with all food services needs, including but not limited to; stocking kitchen items, organizing and cleaning of kitchen areas, food packaging, food prep, cafeteria set-up, serving customers, and dishwashing
• Demonstrates ability and knowledge to use and clean commercial kitchen equipment as well as identify issues regarding the maintenance of the equipment
• Identifies food inventory needs, waste and shortages on a daily basis. Ensures that these needs are reported directly to the Kitchen Manager in a timely fashion
• Cultural diversity and sensitivity demonstrated towards clients of the program
Minimum Requirements:
• Substantial knowledge of professional kitchen practices.
• 3 years minimum experience in food preparation in a commercial or school kitchen
• Demonstrated proficiency in food preparation, menu planning and some knowledge of purchasing kitchen supplies and foods.
• Ability to work under time pressures
• Willingness to learn and be flexible
• Ability to work independently and as a team player.
• Valid California State drivers license
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. with no restrictions that would impair the employee from safely and efficiently carrying out the assigned responsibilities.
