Information on using Paintstiks to make Exotica quilt blocks and building a whole food/healthy kitchen will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. and on Thursday at noon.

Laura Murray is a quilter, teacher and author, and she’s going to demonstrate using Paintstiks in a one, two and three layer design, along with curved borders, to create one-of-a-kind Exotica quilt blocks. Her business is Laura Murray Designs and she lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Author Maria Benardis will share ten ways to build a whole food/healthy kitchen on a budget. She suggests buying local and at farmers’ markets, making nutritional substitutions and buying in bulk. Her book is titled “Cooking and Eating: Wisdom for Better Health.” She lives in New York City.

Information on making bias strip cording, “upcycled” accessories, and cake decorating will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on Tuesday at noon and on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Pam Damour, The Decorating Diva, will show how to make continuous bias strips, turn them into perfect welt cords, and then show how to apply the cords to different projects. She’s from Champlain, New York.

Crafter, Marisa Pawelko will show how to create “upcycled” accessories out of common household items. These include a juice bottle gift basket, a fruity handbag and a can magnet — just to name a few. Pawelko lives in San Miguel de Allenda, Mexico.

Nancy Siler always has something new to show in the way of cake decorating and this time it has to do with a cake made with rice crispies. She calls it a Crispy Twist Cake. Siler is with Wilton Brands in Woodridge, Illinois.

Crispy Twist Cake

Ingredients and tools:

• 6 x 3 in. Round Pan

• Plastic wrap

• 8-inch Cake Circle

• Fanci-Foil Wrap

• White Cookie Icing

• Red Tube Decorating Icing

• Yellow Tube Decorating Icing

• Orange Tube Decorating Icing

• White Tube Decorating Icing

• Tip and Nail Set (star tip used)

• Candy-coated chocolate dots

• Primary Color Lattice Candles

Step 1: Make “cake”: Line pan with plastic wrap. Prepare cereal treats recipe and press firmly into pan. Unmold onto foil-wrapped board.

Step 2: Decorate : Following label instructions, heat cookie icing; cover top of “cake” with cookie icing, letting icing drip down sides. Let set. With tube icing, pipe assorted color stars on sides of “cake”. Pipe star bottom border in assorted colors with tube icing. Pipe rosette candleholders on top of “cake.” Insert candles.
