COLCHESTER, VT… Fill up your car using 21st century technology at the new Waterbury Municipal Center, where Green Mountain Power and Waterbury have partnered to bring residents and visitors a new electric vehicle charging station.
“The people of Waterbury are so proud of this new facility, which is the result of Tropical Storm Irene Flood Recovery efforts, and it feels right that we are helping promote cleaner transportation by adding a charging station to the complex,” said Barbara Farr, Long Term Recovery Director. “We are pleased to partner with GMP to bring the charging station to Waterbury.”
The new Municipal Center, located at 28 North Main Street, includes municipal offices combined with a new expanded Library and History Center, all with state-of-the-art heating, cooling and energy efficiency. Significant funding came through a bond vote from the Waterbury voters, several Vermont Community Development Programs, and private donations to the Friends of the Waterbury Library and Historical Society. Waterbury received funding for the charging station from the Downtown Development Board through a partnership with the Department of Housing and Community Development and the Agency of Natural Resources.
“We are delighted to have helped Waterbury install a new charging station at the new Municipal Center,” said Dorothy Schnure, Green Mountain Power spokesperson. “This is a great location that will enable visitors to Waterbury to conveniently charge their vehicles, reducing their use of fossil fuels and helping Vermont meet its clean energy goals.”
GMP’s commitment to a comprehensive statewide EV charging network will help increase Vermont’s energy independence and contribute to cleaner air and lower carbon emissions. GMP has installed charging stations in 30 locations, nine of which have a DC Fast Charger. This newest one is the closest charging station to the I-89 Exit 10 exit and is within a short walking distance to the many local restaurants and shops.
The charging station in Waterbury will serve all electric vehicles (Tesla owners need an adapter) with a dual port Level 2 station. The chargers have Level 2 capabilities that provide up to 24 miles of charge per hour.

GMP and NRG EVgo offer customers the option to pay as they go or sign up for various monthly charging memberships starting around $5.95 a month. Memberships are available for GMP customers at 1-877-494-3833 or www.greenmountainpower.com/evgo, but anyone can pay by credit card at the charging station.
