Cody PTA Meeting Nov. 9:  Our next PTA meeting is Monday, November 9, 2015 at 6:30pm in the Cody library. We are holding the meeting a day early this month due to conferences taking place during our regular scheduled meeting time.  We plan to discuss Fall Frolic final metrics and look forward to next year. We will also finalize Bingo Night  details. Please plan to attend and share in the conversation. Child care will be provided and our meetings generally last one hour or less. Bingo Night Nov. 13:  Family Bingo Night is November 13th.  Join in the fun! Click here for all the details.

All School Skate Party Nov. 17: Please Join us at  Eldridge Skate Park from 6:00 – 8:00pm on November 17, 2015. This is fun event sponsored by the Cody PTA. We encourage our Cody families to come out and join the party.  Admission is 3.00 and $1.50 for skate rental. The skate park  does NOT accept debit or credit cards. Concessions will be  available. This is not a drop-off event. We ask that a parent/guardian accompany every child.

Hopewell

Hopewell Introduction to Robotics, 4th grade:  This program focuses on building interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). It will be a class to introduce the children to Robot technology and learn how to use them. We will build simple models, use a computer to program our models and collect data. The program will meet on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:30 pm at Hopewell, room 74 (next to the library). We will meet November 17, 24 and December 1,8, and end on the 15th. There is a fee of $15.00. This is to cover parts and materials for the class. This will be filled on a “first come, first serve” basis. We are to accommodate approximately 12 children. You can print this form, fill it out and turn it into the office. The deadline will be November 10. You will be notified by email if your child is participating by November 13.

Visiting Author Nov.  9:  Our students will meet Mary Amato on Monday! All books that were submitted for autographs will be signed by Mary Amato on Monday and returned to your student within the week.

Gift Card Orders Due Nov. 10:  Working on your Thanksgiving day grocery list? Order gift cards to your favorite local grocery store and the retailer will give up to 5% of your purchase amount back to Hopewell Elementary! And, Christmas is right around the corner. Gift cards make great stocking stuffers! Click HERE to print an order form.

Donuts for Dad Order Forms Due Nov. 11:  Donuts for Dad order forms were sent home earlier this week. Pre-orders are due back by Wednesday, November 11th. All pre-ordered items are $1. Prices increase to $1.50 per item if paid for at the door. Thank you for supporting the 6th grade class and their legacy gift to the school!

Hopewell Family Fun Night Nov. 13:  Join us for Hopewell’s Family Fun and Wellness Night on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 6:30-8:00 PM at Hopewell. The event features a free concert starring QC Rock Academy’s Student Band, Shockwave! Kids can dance, jump rope, and hang out in the cafeteria! And–DODGEBALL in the gym! (K-1 can play from 6:35-7:00 PM; Grades 2-3 7:05-7:30 PM; Grades 4-6 7:35-8:00 PM )

Fifth grade Human Growth and Development sessions Nov. 16, 17, and 19:   We want to inform you that the Fifth grade Human Growth and Development sessions have been scheduled for November 16, 17, and 19 from 12:55-1:35. Please let us know if you would not like your student to participate. You are welcome to attend. Winter Program Dec. 3: The Hopewell Winter Program is one of the most popular events of our school year, and we enjoy welcoming the community to Hopewell for this special occasion.  We will have two all-school performances this year. The first performance will begin at 9:00 AM for families of students with last names that begin A-L.  The second performance will begin at 1:30 PM for students with last names that begin M-Z.   The gym doors will open ½ hour before the performance, allowing audience members to find seats. Parking will be available in the east side parking lot.  There will be additional parking on the playground cement.  Parking is prohibited in bus and fire lanes in front of the school.  The side doors and the playground doors will open for ease of entrance.

Pleasant View

PTA Meeting Nov. 9:  We will have our November Pleasant View PTA Meeting on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 9:00am. The meeting will be held in the conference room or the cafeteria. Please arrive at 8:45am if you’d like to assist preparing Coupon Book fundraising materials for distribution.

Childcare will not be provided, but you may bring small children with a quiet activity.  As a reminder, please remember to bring photo identification so you can be issued a visitor badge and attend the meeting.

Visiting Author Nov. 13:  Pleasant View is happy to welcome children’s author, Mary Amato on Friday, November 13. All students will attend one of her presentations on writing.  If you purchased a personal copy of one of her books for your student online or from a local bookstore and would like it autographed please send the book to the library prior to Thursday, November 12 with your child’s name and grade level. Pre-ordered books have arrived and will be autographed the day of her visit. If you have questions contact Mrs. Anderson andersonbeverly@pleasval.k12.ia.us.

Book Fair Nov. 10: Don’t forget to stop by the book fair during conferences on Tuesday November 10th from 2:30-8pm. We will have a great selection of books and all the profit goes back to our teachers and the library. Human Growth and Development PARENT MEETING Nov. 11:  The Human Growth and Development Parent meeting will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2015.  We will review with you the curriculum, materials, and videos, which are presented to the students.

Please take note of the following times:

Parents of 4th grade students    6:30-7:15pm – library

* The 4th grade students will be taught this curriculum Spring 2016*

Parents of 5th grade students      7:15-8:15pm – library

*The 5th grade students will be taught this curriculum late November 2015*

Parents of 6th grade students      7:45-8:30pm – ELP room (#4)

*The 6th grade students will be taught this curriculum Winter 2016*

This evening meeting is only for the parents; please do not bring your children with you.  If you have any questions, please call 563-332-0525.

Musical BINGO Night Nov. 20:   Please come to the Riverdale Heights Cafeteria early (seats fill up fast!) and enjoy an evening of fun, music, contests, and BINGO with your friends and family!  We start at 6:30 pm and the event concludes at 8:30 pm. Prizes awarded for all winners. Pizza and other concessions available for purchase. BINGO chips or blotters for sale for $5. This is not a drop-off event; all children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Spelling Bee Dec. 16:  On December 16th at 3:15, Riverdale Heights will be having their 2016 Spelling Bee for anyone in grades 4-6th.  The competition will be held in the school cafeteria and will conclude when there is one remaining finalist.   Study list for the Bee are available in the front office or in Mrs. Ahnquist’s room.   You also need a permission slip to participate.

Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser Nov. 9:   The Pleasant Valley High School Habitat for Humanity Club is holding a fundraiser at Granite City Food & Brewery on Monday, November 9th.  Customers who present this flyer to their server will have 12.5% of their total bill donated to the club.  If you don’t have time to dine on Monday, stop by and purchase gift cards for your holiday gifts.  Granite City has a great deal during the holidays where you buy $25 in gift cards and get $5 back for free!  All funds raised will be used to sponsor a Habitat for Humanity house.

Important Cap and Gown/Graduation Information Nov. 30:  Jostens will be presenting information regarding graduation cap and gowns, announcements and accessories at the Senior Financial/Scholarship night on November 30, 2015 at 6:30 in the HS auditorium. Please come to hear this important presentation and pick up your order packet. Jostens will be back to collect orders on December 8th during lunch.  This will be the only day that Jostens will be at school to collect orders.
