On the Sunday of PLAY expo we will be joined by several guests from the games industry who will be talking about the visual aspects of gaming. From in-game graphics to the very packaging the game arrives in, The Art of Gaming talk at PLAY expo is perfect for gamers and art lovers a like.
The Art of Gaming talk will take place on Sunday 11th October at 4.30pmDavid Rowe first began creating illustrations and artwork for the games industry in 1981, producing some of the earliest colour cover artwork for companies such as Quicksilva on games like Ant Attack, Fred and Zombie and The Chess Player. Only using traditional drawing and air brushed media, David has worked with clients such as EA, Mirrorsoft and Psygnosis. He also produced all the background sets for the first three series of Knightmare, which recently won the Radio Times poll for the best children’s TV show of all time!
Tim Smith is a graphic designer and illustrator who began to work in games industry ten years ago but has already worked on everything from branding and packaging to art installations and museum interactives to in-game UI and smartphone games. Tim has worked with the likes of Valve, Warner Brothers Games and Ustwo (Monument Valley), though he is probably best known for his work with Sony Playstation on packaging and press kit design kit.
Matt Dixon is a freelance illustrator and concept artist who first contributed to video games in 1988, supplying sprites and background graphics for a Commodore 64 shooter. Since then he has worked in house as well as freelance and built up a portfolio of impressive proportions working on products such as Harry Potter, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and Pirate of the Caribbean and industry names like EA, Bigpoint and Blizzard. Matt is a regular artist on the recent Blizzard game Hearthstone.
