What is your typical day like?
Currently, I still work a full time job (7:30am- 4:30pm). During the evenings and on the weekends is when I focus on work for my event planning business. Sometimes it is late nights and early mornings, but I love it! This consists of following up on emails, setting up meetings, conducting client consultations, working on event décor, and implementing ways to grow my business. The majority of my time is creating event décor.
How did you get started in the industry?
When I transferred to UCF (University of Central Florida) I was in need of a job and I came across an event center at UCF that was hiring at the time. I applied and got the job as their event coordinator. We managed all types of events from business meetings and speaking engagements to dinners and celebrations.
During that time, I joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority which allowed me to partake in the different events we hosted throughout the school year. I would build, create, and design decor and other event details. People would be impressed by my work which led to being asked to create decorations and to plan their events. Then the question was asked, why don’t you start your own business? In the back of my mind, I would always ask myself if I ever started my own business, what would it be? I knew it would be event décor’ & planning. So I did it! Our concept is to focus on the client’s individual vision and apply our innovative ideas to create a work of art that gives meaning. Vision, Create, Inspire!
It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I truly LOVE what I do. And I can only imagine what the future holds. God gave me a talent and I enjoy showcasing my work.
Where do you find design inspiration?
Instragram, Pinterest, Google, wedding magazines, and home décor magazines are my top inspirations. The majority of the time I can find inspiration in just about anything to create something unique. I catch myself in deep thought wondering, “Hmmm, what can I create with this?”.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
Wedding Wire, the Knot, Event Planners Forum, and Pinterest
