The Secular Coalition for America participated in the American Atheists (AA) convention last week in Salt Lake City, Utah. During the conference, the Secular Coalition was selected by the Church of Bacon as its charity--anyone donating to the Secular Coalition during the AA conference got a Praise Bacon shirt or a magnetic bumper sticker.
Additionally, all donations to the SCA were matched to American Atheist by the Church of Bacon founder, John Whiteside, of Las Vegas. During the event, the Secular Coalition raised over $11,000. The SCA also took the opportunity while in Salt Lake City to meet with state chapter leaders from around the country who were visiting for the convention.
The Secular Coalition is excited to announce new additions to our Lobby Day and Secular Summit coming up in June! We have added a showing of the Jeremiah Camara film, "Contradiction", which explores the impact of the church on the black community. The film is being shown in partnership with African Americans for Humanism-DC. We will be joined by the filmmaker for discussion and the event will be MC'ed by comedian, Steve Hill.
We've also been busy confirming speakers, including our most recent addition: Chris Stedman, from the Harvard Humanist Community Project, and author of "Faitheist". Stedman will be speaking on the panel "Empowering Youth, The Nonreligious Generation." Some of our other confirmed speakers include: Jessica Boyer- Sexual Education Lobbyist, Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States; Sasha Pudelski- Lobbyist, American Association of School Administrators and former SCA lobbyist; and Lyz Liddel- Secular Student Alliance, Director of Campus Organizing.
Finally, we're planning a fabulous rooftop poolside reception, as part of our Lobby Day and Summit events. Check out our preliminary schedule. Register for Lobby Day now! There are only a few weeks left to secure the outstanding room rate we've secured for our participants.
Finally, the Secular Coalition is looking for a Development Director, as well as spring and summer interns! See all of our career opportunities and apply now.
