Twitter Adds Tablet Optimization

Good news and bad news. The official Twitter account just announced (via tweet, of course) a new version of their Android app for tablets. When tapped, tweets expand to the right side of landscape orientation. Selecting media will allow you to view in full screen mode.

Sadly, the new app is only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. Other Samsung tablets will be supported in the near future. The balance of Android tablets (non-Samsung) will be supported by the end of the year.

Twitter worked with Samsung to bring unique features to their line of devices. Multi-screen view is present, allowing one to use the official Twitter app to run alongside other supported apps. They have also brought a widget to the table which allows for a personalized experience on your homescreen. The widget is also interactive (no excuse not to be these days). For the Note line, in app illustrations are supported for use with the S-Pen. This should make it much easier to highlight a certain part of a picture which is especially relevant to your audience.

Updates on the status will be tweeted by @twittermobile. Be sure to follow them if you choose to use the official app. Twitter stated they will be pushing out info for support of non-Samsung devices via that medium.

Today, we’re introducing Twitter for Android Tablets. While we’ve long offered a mobile app for Android users, we’ve not yet provided an app that is optimized for Android tablets –– until now. The landscape view fills your screen with Tweets, conversations, Trends, accounts to follow and more. With a single tap, Tweets expand on the right side to show photos, videos and article previews. Dive deeper with another tap to see photos, play videos or read links from the web in fullscreen mode. Now Twitter is optimized for your Android tablet. Tweet Twitter for Android Tablets will first be available on Samsung tablets, starting today with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1-2014 Edition, and it will come to other Android tablets by the end of the year. We worked with Samsung to include a few unique features: Multi-screen view This new view lets you run Twitter and another app at the same time. Now, you can read Tweets while browsing the web, or check out accounts while you stream music and videos. Twitter widget We’re introducing a widget that brings Twitter content directly to your tablet. The new Twitter widget lets you engage with Tweets, photos, and videos while also delivering country specific breaking news, music, sports and photos. By logging in, you’ll see a more personalized experience where you can interact by favoriting or retweeting right from the widget. Illustrate your Tweets You can now use Twitter as your canvas to create and tweet colorful illustrations, or you can also draw directly on photos from your photo gallery and share them. The ability to doodle also works with the S-Pen, which is available on the Galaxy Note 10.1-2014 Edition. Starting today, Twitter for Android Tablets is on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1-2014 Edition, and soon it will be available on other Samsung tablets as well. Follow @twittermobile for updates, including when the app will be available on other Android tablets.
