My jewelry Armoire was featured at Ivy & Elephants. Thank you so much Patti.
I was also featured at The Fine Craft Guild. Thank you so much. I'm thrilled and honored.
Hello friends! I hope your weekend is going well. I finally finished this lovely little jewelry armoire and thought I would share the before and after with you.
I found this piece at a local resale shop and as soon as I saw it had visions of pink with roses and angels or cherubs. lol I do have a problem don't I?
Yes, I'm still stuck in tissue paper decoupage mode. You may be getting tired of it but don't worry, I'm sure to jump onto another bandwagon soon. :-)
The armoire had that orangy stain finish that I really dislike. It has green felt lining on the inside that was still in pretty good shape so I left it.
Here is the finished project.
I guess those of you who have been faithful followers of mine have noticed that I only have one good area in my home for pictures. I assure you I do have other rooms in my home! lol Now that its warmer I'll have to take some outside again.
Here is the before.
First, I painted it with Annie Sloan's "Versailles," which is a lemony green. After that dried I then added a coat of ASCP in "Antoinette Pink". I love this color!
I then chose a graphic from my own collection that had this little pair of roses in it and printed it out on tissue paper. To do this I take a regular sheet of copy paper and apply double sided tape all along the outside edges.
I then take a white piece of tissue paper and cut it the same size and carefully lay it on top taping down the sides as I go.
If your tissue paper is very wrinkled you may iron it on low heat to remove some of the wrinkles.
Once your paper is ready print your selected image onto the tissue paper side using the "best" selection in printer preferences.
I also increase the color saturation when editing my image because some of the color will wipe off.
I then spray my image with a clear matte sealer. This helps set the color. Next, you cut out your graphic and using matte Mod Podge glue it to your furniture piece.
Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the furniture first, center your image and lay it into the glue.
Using a brush coated in the glue start in center of image and apply picture with as few strokes as possible. Working from center out.
Too many strokes and your image will tear or dissolve.
Let dry and apply another coat. Just know that if it is a fairly large picture it is going to have a few wrinkles . You just can't brush them all out without ruining your image. Small pictures do fine.
Once that was dry, I waxed the entire piece with clear wax and then used burnt umber to tint a clear glaze, and antiqued the entire piece. I wanted an aged look to the paint.
On the top I used a heart shaped wreath made of roses from my collection of vintage cards.
The outside of the side doors I applied a ribbon and wreath image.
You get a sweet surprise when you open the doors on each side and see these adorable cherubs from The Graphics Fairy.
The next day I distressed it and applied a final coat of clear wax. Oh yes, the sides of the drawers are painted with Versailles.
You can't tell in the pictures but you can see the green showing through in some areas after the distressing.
Finally, I dry brushed some "Old White" on the edges and details. I also added the white to the drawer pulls. They had all three colors so when I distressed them a little they looked really old and used.
This was a really fun piece to paint and one of those that I would have liked to keep. I hope you like it and will give tissue paper decoupage a try.
