Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has just announced a new dual SIM smartphone that is priced at just $149, the Lumia 540. The smartphone will come in four color variants: white, black, orange and cyan, and will be subject to pre-ordering from today, May 18.



The Redmond-based software giant’s latest smartphone, features the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system (with Denim), which can be later upgraded to Windows 10, once it is released for mobile devices. Windows 10 is set to release this summer, but it will come out on the PC’s only first.

The company’s budget smartphone, the Lumia 540; features a 5 inch 720p IPS LCD HD display. The dual SIM smartphone will host a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC, with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, backed with 1 GB of RAM. The Lumia 540 is to have a 2,200 mAh battery and 8 GB of internal storage capacity, expandable via the microSD card slot up to 128 GB. The smartphone even boasts Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and 3G connectivity. On the back, the Lumia 540 has an 8 mega-pixel camera with LED flash, and a front 5 mega-pixel camera for selfie enthusiasts.

Microsoft has even pre-installed apps like Skype and Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote) on the device, hinting that the smartphone is built for productivity and communication purposes. The company is even offering 30 GB of free online cloud storage (OneDrive), for those who purchase the Lumia 540 Dual Sim smartphone.
