Popular novelist ‘Anashku’ Gautam and his pregnant wife Indu live a peaceful life far away from the chaotic cities. When Indu’s recurring nightmares become concerning, she thinks that the untimely stoppage of her family’s tradition of spirit worship could be the reason for all other members of her family being dead. Not wanting to take a chance on the lives of Gautam and their unborn child, she decides to go back to her roots and revive the tradition to appease the spirts. Their lives take a wild turn as they move in to Indu’s native village and spirals out of control.

What’s Hot
The feel of mystery is continually upheld by the spine chilling background score composed by B. Ajaneesh Loknath. The sound design has been impeccable too to capture the locale’s natural sounds and the eerie effects to showcase supernatural presence deserves mention too. The songs are pleasing to the ears which complete an all-round captivating musical experience.
The forgotten tradition of spirit worship is brought to life with some ingenious costume design for the performers complimented by equally competent cosmetic makeovers that convey the mood of the performers. The costumes for the lead cast are catchy too and make heads turn in the song sequences as well.
Despite consisting of a cast with a large number of debutants, the acting from the lead cast is an important factor that has created a positive vibe with special recognition for Radhika Chetan who displayed a wide array of emotions. Veteran Sai Kumar’s character and performance was convincingly brought out on screen to play a pivotal role in the story.
The writing from first time director Anup Bhandari is one to be appreciated for its ability to sustain the suspense for most parts of the narration. If the intermission was quite the unexpected, the core knots unveiled in the second half are virtually impossible to guess and are very effective despite being a notch too multi-layered.
Visually too the movie is quite gripping as a few deceptive shots like the well scene at the beginning, extend the suspense of the story. The water-laden locales and forest scenery are captured in bright colours and vivid detail which are quite comprehensible even in the poorly lit scenes.
What’s Not
For a grippingly written suspense thriller, the movie runs a wee bit longer and is dragged around by an overload of songs towards the business end. Though enjoyable isolated, the non-so-prominent screen presence of Nirup Bhandari is a dampener. The time could have been invested to show more on the intrinsic details on the spirit worship, which we feel was only used for a fraction of its potential.
Some of the scare tactics deployed were too ordinary and not justified as well at the end. Just like some portions of the screenplay which allowed coincidences to propel the movie, it ended a touch amateurishly as well for it did not address the customary follow up on the core climax sequence.

An interesting mix of Romance and Suspense which is accentuated by the infusion of the creativity from a young cast and crew, makes ‘RangiTaranga’ that refreshingly taut and unnervingly mystic movie experience – a genuinely bold and suspenseful thriller that is bound to give you the chills!
