The dapper Shoaib Ibrahim who is popularly still remembered as Sasural Simar Ka's first Prem is set to woo the hearts of all the ladies with his hotness on Star Plus' latest Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai. Playing the role of an army officer is no doddle, but the fine actor takes it up as a challenge. He will be seen romancing Surbhi Jyoti and is all pepped up for his new show.
In a heart-to-heart conversation with us, Shoaib spoke about his new role, his excitement and the love of his life, Dipika Kakkar!
What made you choose Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai as your comeback show?
Yes ,its a comeback for me after 4 long years. I had decided that I did not want to do a saas bahu drama after quitting Sasural Simar Ka and did not want to do a seven-day shoot. So when this show came up, I was very excited listening to the story. It has a great content and the role and storyline had a lot of clarity to it.
You still are popularly remembered as Prem, how difficult is it for you to convince audience while playing a brand new role altogether?
Well, I can just tell you one thing, people will forget Prem and just remember Abhimanyu. As an actor, I don't think of what people will think. I just focus on my work to make it look more relatable and convincing.
What special preparations did you take for this role?
I lost around 20 kilos of weight. And I am a director's actor. I just follow what the director says, to avoid work to become cumbersome.
Are you open to doing bold scenes on screen?
If script demands, I don't see any harm in performing it.
What was Dipika's reaction on you having grabbed this opportunity?
I discuss everything with Dipika. She was very happy. It has been her who has been supporting me all these fours years. She never forced me to rushing into choosing anything. She guided me morally. But when this thing came up, she persuaded me to taking it up because she saw a lot of power to the role. She said that it was an intense, passionate love story. Please do it. Wherever I am today, it is because of her. When I wasn’t working after quitting Sasural Simar Ka, she told me to make a comeback which is worth remembering.
People are still apprehensive about talking about their partner's not-so-great past. What is your take?
Well, you know Dipika has had a past that doesn't affect me at all. I just know that one Dipika whom I had met, worked with during Sasural Simar Ka. I had just been friends with her initially. But after I left the show, I realised that I was into her. So her past etc doesn't bother me at all!
How open minded was your family when it came to accepting your relationship with Dipika?
They just asked me one question, beta tu khush hai na? That's what after all every family wants na, their children to be happy.
So when is your wedding on the cards?
Have left all that to Dipi. It's all on her choice. She will take care of the planning etc. I have given her the responsibility to take care of how she wants the wedding to happen.
How did you react on seeing Dipika turn into a fly on Sasural Simar Ka?
I have pulled her leg so many times (Laughs). But you know, to play a role of that sort, you need gumption and guts. On a serious note, she was really exhausted after working for 6 long years. When her health got affected I told her to leave the show. She was a little apprehensive but I told her that no matter what happens I will always stay with her, besides her, irrespective of she continues or even quits the show, that's all her choice.
Who's the oh-so die hard romantic at heart amongst the two?
On one hand, I am completely romantic but fail when it comes to being vocal or expressive about it. On the other hand, Dipika is extremely expressive and equally romantic. But she has accepted the way I am and is all OK with my in-expressiveness. She literally treats and pampers me like a kid and I love it.
