Good content and brilliant performances by the lead actors make the film a hit and 2016 gave us quite a lot. From Aamir Khan's portrayal of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in Dangal to Shah Rukh Khan playing an obsessive fan in FAN, this year was marked by many praiseworthy acts by our favourite stars.
Take a look:
Aamir Khan in Dangal
Do we really even need to mention how well has Aamir Khan performed in Nitesh Tiwari's film? With Dangal hitting the screens on December 23, we got our one of the finest performances of 2016. Aamir has surpassed every other performance he's given till now. The way Aamir has carried the stance of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat is remarkable and both critics and fan are not left with words for praising Mr.Perfectionist. Dangal is everything that we all expected and Aamir does true justice to the role. Hats off to his conviction and hard work that he has put in shooting for the film.
Salman Khan in Sultan
This list would have been incomplete mentioning this one name - Salman Khan in Sultan. Wasn’t this one of the finest performances of the Dabangg Khan? Well, most of the audiences who went to watch the film would agree to it. From playing dhobi pachad wrestler to a boss of freestyle fighting, you see Salman put up a performance like never before. It can be said that Salman was in his real self and has let go his Bhai image for this film and when Sultan returned to the ring, all you could hear were whistles in the theatre. Thanks to Salman that the fans have one more popular step - Jag Ghoomeya step!
Shah Rukh Khan in Fan
Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan might not have minted the money as it was expected to at the ticket window, but SRK as a fan Gaurav marked his presence felt and with true passion and justice. Some critics even went on to say that SRK might also get Best Actor award for portraying an obsessive fan with such brilliance. It was indeed a big risk for Khan to play both a superstar Aryan and a fan Gaurav. He did it with all the ease and people couldn’t stop praising King Khan.
Akshay Kumar in Airlift and Rustom
Raja Krishna Menon’s Airlift is loosely based on the true story of how Indians were evacuated from Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion in 1990. Akshay Kumar's stellar performance is the backbone of the film. It can be said that it was one of the most effective and restrained acts in recent times. Not just Airlift, the Khiladi Kumar also delivered one more hit film - Rustom. Based on the infamous 1959 K.M Nanavati case vs The State of Maharashtra case, the film features Akshay in the role of a naval commander. His portrayal of an honest officer who sticks with the prosecution throughout the case impressed the viewers.
Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab
Shahid Kapoor played the character of a rockstar who’s addicted to drugs and the actor soaked in the applauds for his performance as Tommy Singh. The film garnered all the attention because of its subject. The movie deals with the sensitive issue of drugs abuse in Punjab and Shahid just nailed the character. His Twitter was filled with messages from his B-Town friends and fans. Well Deserved!
Amitabh Bachchan in Pink
Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink is a film about male privilege, prejudice, sexual violence, and the many systems that support them. Amitabh Bachchan, without any doubt, took away the limelight and all credits to his strong persona and dialogue delivery.
“These boys must realise that No ka matlab No hota hai. Usse bolne wali ladki koi parichit ho, friend ho, girlfriend ho, koi sex worker ho ya aapki apni biwi hi kyu na ho. ‘No’ means no and when someone says No, you stop.” : Isn’t this dialogue by Amitabh just so hard-hitting? His extraordinary skills just took the film to an another level.
Sushant Singh Rajput in M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story
Sushant Singh Rajput stepped into the shoes of batsmen-skipper, Ms Dhoni, and played the role with his utmost dedication. In almost all of his interviews, he asserted on the fact that he was not pretending to be Dhoni when he was shooting for the film, but was actually living the cricketer’s life. He had adopted all the mannerisms of Mahi and it was there on the screens for us to judge and he clearly didn’t disappoint us. Sushant carried off it really and fans went gaga over his performance.
Ranbir Kapoor in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Ranbir Kapoor is the conventional Bollywood hero in the true sense - tall, handsome and is born with a silver person. Ranbir's career was falling apart when Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil came as a saving guard for the actor. He outshines in the film with his brilliant and realistic performance.
Manoj Bajpayee in Aligarh
This is said to be Manoj Bajpayee’s finest performance till date. As a homosexual professor of Aligarh Muslim University, Bajpayee struck the right chord with the audience and nailed the character completely. The sensitivity with which the subject was dealt by Hansal Mehta is definitely praiseworthy and Bajpayee played a character that was rather different from the roles he has played in the past. Aligarh is a story that was worth telling to the world and his role just steals the show.
R Madhavan in Saala Khadoos
What stood out for an average film like Saala Khadoos? It’s R Madhavan’s honest and phenomenal performance. The film revolves around Madhavan's character, who relentlessly pushes his protégé to overcome obstacles and achieve her goals. The actor says the movie goes beyond boxing. There are no words for how he took the story and his angry man avatar was something fans went gaga over
Randeep Hooda in Sarbjit
Randeep Hooda plays the role of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer imprisoned in Pakistan and condemned to death for terrorism, for Omung Kumar's biopic Sarbjit. And there's no doubt about the fact that the actor was all into the character and gave us chills down our spine with his onscreen presence in the film. Randeep lost 18 kgs in just 28 days for the film and this transformation shocked all his fans and the film industry. Hands Down!
Arjun Kapoor in Ki & Ka
The concept of Ki & Ka was different as it challenged the set societal roles of a husband and wife and it kept the fans waiting for the film to release. Arjun Kapoor impressed the viewers in his role as a househusband.
Ranveer Singh in Befikre
Ranveer Singh as Dharam in Aditya Chopra's Befikre was appreciated by the viewers. He was jovial, energetic and full of life onscreen and the audience could connect to the modern age dating concept of the film. We won't say that it was one of his best performances so far, but he did keep the viewers excited and thanks to the naked butt shot!
