Today marks the Nawab of Bollywood - Saif Ali Khan's 46th birthday. After he debuted in the 90's with Yash Chopra's Parampara (1993), Saif's initial years in the industry saw him struggling but then came along a movie that changed the actor's professional life altogether - Dil Chahta Hai (2001), and he has never looked back again!
Here are 5 characters portrayed by Saif that has made us fall in love with the Nawab:
1. Sameer (Dil Chahta Hai)
Dil Chahta Hai completely changed Saif's career. His character as the lovable yet dorky Sameer was loved by all and he stole the movie from everyone's hands including acting perfectionist himself - Aamir Khan.
2. Rohit Patel (Kal Ho Naa Ho)
Rohit Patel made us all believe that you can get out of the friend-zone and actually get the girl! Although a supporting actor, Saif made his presence felt and won hearts all around, not just with his urbane style but also with the way he played the character of the Gujju chokra who loved his best friend, Naina (played by Preity Zinta).
3. Karan Kapoor (Hum Tum)
From an amateur and childish boy to a responsible and caring man, Saif's transition as Karan Kapoor and his love for Rhea made all girls want someone like him. Hum Tum made everyone believe that Saif was capable of being the lead hero and carry a movie on his own.
4. Nikhil Arora (Salaam Namaste)
Saif's pairing with Preity Zinta will always be one of our favourites. Their chemistry is adorable and that could be seen in Salaam Namaste too. We could not resist Saif's take as Nikhil Arora, the OCD chef who hates the word 'commitment' and 'marriage' but ultimately mans up and takes responsibility for his actions and his pregnant girlfriend.
5. Ishwar 'Langda' Tyagi (Omkara)
We have to save the best for last! Before Omkara, people stereotyped Saif as the typical urban guy-next-door. But his portrayal of the villainous Langda Tyagi changed everyone's perception and in the words of his wife Kareena herself, "Right through the shoot of Omkara, I think all the other actors knew that we would be completely overshadowed by Saif, and we had no problem with it."
From Sameer to Langda Tyagi, we will always love and adore the 'Wow' actor! Happy Birthday, Saifu!
