As we all know that Eid has been Salman Khan’s domain while successive Diwalis have brought Shah Rukh Khan rich dividends, just as Christmas has proved lucky for Aamir Khan year after year. However, with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo enjoying a strong opening at the box office, with collections to the tune of Rs 39.03 crore on the first day, Salman has scored yet another round in the festival dominance war. It is after 16 long years that he has given a huge hit, a blockbuster on Diwali. Way back in 1999, it was Sooraj Barjatya’s massive hit, Hum Saath Saath Hain which had coincided with the Diwali weekend. So, with PRDP, looks like Salman has put an end to his unimpressive and mediocre record of Diwali releases. Let’s take a look at some of Salman’s Diwali releases that sank without a trace at the box office -

Kyon Ki (2005)
The Priyadarshan-directed film released over the Diwali weekend in 2005. Remake of a Malayalam film starring Salman Khan-Kareena Kapoor, which clashed with Akshay Kumar-John Abraham-starrer, Garam Masala, failed to appeal the audience.

Jaan-e-Mann (2006)
Salman's Diwali-release Jaan-e-Mann which was directed by Shirish Kunder and also starred Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta, faced a tough competition with Shah Rukh Khan's Don. While Jaan-e-Mann tanked at the box office, Don went on to become a hit. 'We lost this time', Salman was quoted saying.

Saawariya (2007)
The next year Salman returned on Diwali with Saawariya, but he only had a cameo while Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor made their debut with this film. The romance saga, which locked horns with Shah Rukh's Om Shanti Om, turned out to be a disaster.

Heroes (2008)
This is one of Salman's forgettable films. He had teamed up with Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta but the Samir Karnik-directed film was declared a dud.

Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna (2009)
Yet another film of Salman that saw the Diwali release. He reunited for this romantic film with Kareena Kapoor while Sohail Khan too played a significant role. However, the movie failed to impress the audience.
