(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Restlet, creators of the most widely deployed framework for creating web APIs, today announced that it has been named a Cool Vendor in the “Cool Vendors in Specialized PaaS, 2015” (1) report by Gartner, Inc. The report highlights cool vendors that provide Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings for specific use cases.

In the report, Gartner analysts make the following recommendations for enterprises developing a PaaS strategy:

Look beyond aPaaS and iPaaS when developing your PaaS strategy. Treat specialized PaaS as you would any type of specialized middleware, as these systems offer compelling point solutions.

Consider PaaS solutions for all types of application requirements, not just cloud-centric scenarios. Develop plans to implement private and hybrid PaaS so that you can obtain PaaS benefits for your on-premises applications.

This recognition comes within six months of Restlet launching APISpark, a specialized PaaS for creating and hosting data-oriented Web APIs as well as managing and consuming any type of Web API, and Restlet Studio, a free visual API design tool. Restlet’s two new products work together with Restlet Framework, an open source API development framework that has been downloaded more than 2 million times.

“We feel that inclusion in the Cool Vendor report by Gartner validates our strategy to provide best-in-class API solutions to enterprises through an application PaaS,” said Jerome Louvel, CEO of Restlet. “Adoption of our new Platform as a Service, architected around APISpark, has been tremendous so far and we anticipate even faster uptake by enterprises in the next twelve months as more businesses strive to make their data and business logic easily available for third party developers and partners to consume through APIs.”
