Wayfare Magazine is an exciting new travel publication dedicated to emphasizing the beauty of the journey and the importance of new experiences, whether they’re one mile down the road or a thousand miles from home.

It was founded by Erica Dublin, who is a longtime entrepreneur in digital media, a freelance journalist, and a marketing professional specializing in branded content. Erica’s work has been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, Real Simple, Rachael Ray, Shape, Momfilter, Cookie Magazine, and Fitness Magazine. She is also the travel expert for Rachael Ray, a contributor to Remodelista, an Alt Design Summit speaker, and serves on the Forbes Woman Executive Board.

Since Black Tomato have announced an exciting new partnership with Wayfare Magazine, PINCH decided to catch up with Erica to find out a little bit about what inspired her to launch this innovative magazine and what still inspires her today in the world of travel…

When setting up Wayfare what influenced you?

I wanted to redefine the travel magazine, creating a resource that was more about the journey and the experience – about the slow travel movement, like slow food. It’s designed to include things like food, fashion, design and artisans that might be found in a particular place, and then look at how each intersects with the others. I wanted the magazine to be special, with a feeling that you’d want to sit down with your morning coffee, and spend an hour with it.

Where do you get your inspiration for articles for the magazine?

We love hearing about recent trips from friends and the Wayfare submission box. When you can hear or see the passion experienced from a trip, it in turn inspires us to explore the story more. As for me, design, food, family, animals, and recent trips inspire me. It seems I come home from trips in love with something or someone that in turn influences my next travel experience.

Do you have a favourite country that you have travelled to?

Italy is at the top of the list. I spent a good deal of time there when I worked for Lucasfilm, and I’ve had the opportunity to spend a month or two vacationing there. I dream of bringing my family to Lucca and Lake Como.

What’s next for Wayfare?

Our next online issue is slated to go live August 8, and then we’re busy working on a book and handful of products. 2014 is going to be a busy, but exciting year for us!

Where’s next on your travel agenda?

My husband and I are headed to Capella in Los Cabos, Mexico. We’ve never been, but the place looks amazing. We are expecting our second child this winter, so we’re treating it like a mini baby moon.  After the baby is born, I then have some pretty amazing trips planned with the Wayfare team, so stay tuned!

Where do you look (beyond wayfare and pinch obviously) for inspiration on where to travel?

Books and movies spark my wanderlust, but I also love hearing ideas from friends and family. My husband’s Aunt and Uncle just returned from Greece, where they rented a villa with another couple, and I am dying to go. I am always looking for the long stay. Heading somewhere where we can live for a month or the summer is always appealing and inspiring.
