Start date: 1/7/13 – 2/8/13

Hours required: 37.5 hours per week

Brief spec:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a band 7 Physiotherapist to work within a busy medical centre for the Ministry of Defence on a busy RAF base.

The locum Physiotherapist will be under the supervision of the Physiotherapist Team Leader and solely responsible for the independent management, prioritisation, diagnosis and treatment of:

A specialist caseload of military and Phase 1 trainees outpatients in the primary care setting with acute and chronic injuries.

Referred by doctors and other health professionals, and is responsible for diagnosis and initiation of a treatment plan that may involve further investigations.

The provision of expert clinical advice and teaching to staff as trade training, to doctors, Remedial Instructors and physiotherapists.

To communicate verbally and in writing with doctors, Consultants, Remedial Instructors and other relevant staff to facilitate optimum patient care.

To authorise restricted/light duties commensurate with the fitness of personnel, which includes signing staff sick in quarters and exempt RAF Fitness test.

The maintenance of accurate contemporaneous records of treatment and outcome for each patient in aformat that is in accordance with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Standards of Physiotherapy practice, including entering consultations on DMICP (PHC IT System).

Provision of specialist biomechanical assessment and orthotics/splints using advanced computer software.

To initiate requests for further investigations/consultant opinion/RRU referrals in consultation with MOs. To prepare discharge and interim reports and transfer summaries

Essential

Must be a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP).
Must be HPC Registered.
Must have relevant experience working at post-graduate diploma level in the assessment and treatment of musculo-skeletal disorders, sports injuries, orthopaedic conditions, mobilisation and manipulation.
Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy and minimum of two years post graduate clinical experience in musculoskeletal disorders and must have previously held a position as a Specialist Physiotherapist Band 6 or equivalent.

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Good IT skills

Desirable

Previous experience of working with MOD.
Previous experience in the use of the Defence Medical Information Capability Programme (DMICP)
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

Previous Military experience preferred, but NOT always essential as all candidates with broad base NHS experience will be considered.
