An Introduction to Metrin Skincare
Metrin Skincare has just 5 steps in their regime. It starts with a double cleanse, which I believe they’ve been doing since their inception. Kind of reminds me of Korean Beauty in that regard, except they’ve been double cleansing for 80 years! I’m now hooked on double cleansing.
1. Deep Cleansing

When you start with the Deep Cleanser, it helps to remove any traces of makeup or gunk in your pores. The key ingredients are sunflower oil and aloe vera. Sunflower oil is great for cleansing to break down anything left on the skin, while aloe soothes the skin and moisturizes it. It’s really a great creamy cleanser. This to be the ideal cleanser for my dry skin. It doesn’t make my skin feel tight or stripped after using it.
2. Lathering Cleansing

After you use a cleanser with oil, you need a cleanser that can gently remove any traces of oil left on the skin. The lathering cleanser does that, plus it has plant enzymes. These enzymes help to remove dead skin cells without over exfoliating. Over exfoliating is bad for sensitive skin like mine as it can cause more dryness, irritation and flakes. If you’ve got oily skin, over exfoliating can cause excess oil to be produced too.
Double cleansing leaves you with clean pores. And as you know, clean pores appear to be smaller. You can’t shrink your pore size, no matter what someone promises, but you can minimize the appearance of your pores by keeping them clean.
For the first two weeks of using these products, I was asked to leave out step two. However, once adding it in I had no issues with it and in fact I fell in love with how soft it left my face. The lathering cleanser feels very lightweight, silky, and has a lot of slip. This cleanser primes your face for moisturizer.
3. Vita Conditioner

Once your skin is clean, it’s important that you moisturize it, especially if you have sensitive skin! My face drinks up the Vita Conditioner. It has allantoin, which helps to smooth and sooth the skin, as well as lock in moisture. It’s packed with antioxidants, vitamins and fatty acids, making it great skin food. This is a more lightweight moisturizer, making it ideal for oily skin.
4. Protective Lotion

The protective lotion was a bit of a strange product to me at first. For the first two weeks I used it, I didn’t have the right top for it, so I experienced a lot of seepage with the product. However, once I had the mister that is supposed to go with it, it worked much better. I did find it best to mist the product on my hands and then pat it on my face. While it’s called a lotion, it’s really more of a facial mist that helps to tone and protect the skin.
5. Enriched Vita Conditioner

The Enriched Vita Conditioner is a rich moisturizer with anti-aging ingredients, soothing aloe and sunflower oil. It’s also packed with Vitamins A, C, D, E and B12. My skin really loves this one.
My Experience
With the Metrin Skincare System, you use the same products day and night. You don’t have to really think about what you’re doing with your routine, you just apply the products in the order they’re numbered. You do need to wait a bit in between products to apply the next one and to give them a chance to sink into the skin. Both the sunflower oil and aloe vera in the products have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which help sensitive skin like mine. One of the few downsides with this regime is having to wait in between products for your skin to absorb them.
Now, I know some of you will see parabens in the list of ingredients and be worried, so I wanted to link you to some information on parabens. Parabens are naturally occurring chemicals produced by vegetables and fruits. This isn’t to say that just because something is natural, it’s good for you. Arsenic is all natural and that is certainly not good for you!
I truly appreciate the airless pump packaging design. That means that all the antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients are kept safe so their efficacy isn’t affected. The pumps are super easy to use, even easier than a squeeze tube. It’s easy to get out the exact amount of product that you need, rather than too much or too little.
For the first two weeks, as I mentioned above, I omitted step 2. It was a little strange to me to be layering moisturizers on my face during the day. After applying all of these products during the day I would finish with Supergoop Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40. It’s critical to wear SPF during the day, so don’t ever skip that!
For the next two weeks, I used the products exactly as designed. I noticed that I woke up every morning without any redness on my face from my rosacea. My skin looked like normal skin. As the day goes on though, my redness does come back. Still, it’s nice to wake up without redness and be red free for several hours!
I loved how my skin felt after a month, so I continued to use the system. However, I did tweak it by adding in my favorite serum – Holy Snails Shark Sauce (no sharks in it). I didn’t have any flare ups while using it. I’m currently still using the system because I love them and I think my skin looks really good right now. I do continue to use my serums as well. I’m such a serum junkie!
I can’t believe it never occurred to me before using the Metrin system to layer moisturizers on my face. I’ve often layered serums, but never moisturizers. Dry skin like mine appreciates the layering and drinks up the moisturizer.
