The Alumni Classic was first created in 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona when alumni athletes from Arizona State University competed against alumni athletes from the University of Arizona. That same formula and concept has been brought to the high school level as Phoenix is gearing up for the first annual Alumni Classic High School Basketball Tournament, reigniting old high school basketball rivalries between 16 local high school teams for “new bragging rights.”

The Alumni Classic is a gathering of some of the most memorable basketball players who have competed on the high school level throughout the metropolitan Phoenix area. This is a unique opportunity where former high school basketball stars can return and suit up for their high school team once again.

The 2016 Phoenix Alumni Classic is set for July 8-10. The first round of this Double Elimination Tournament will feature South Mountain vs Carl Hayden; Trevor G. Browne vs. Maryvale; Tempe vs. McClintock; Mesa vs. Dobson; Camelback vs. North; St. Mary’s vs. Brophy Prep; Chaparral vs. Saguaro and Desert Vista vs. Mountain Pointe. Players are already talking trash and gearing up to compete!

The 2016 Phoenix Alumni Classic will take place at Camelback High School, 4612 N 28th. ST. Phoenix.

Opening Night ceremonies will commence at 5:00pm on July 8th and the first game of the 2016 Alumni Classic will tip off at 6:00pm.

For more information about the 2016 Alumni Classic, players and game schedules log on to the Alumni Classic official website at www.alumniclassic.com or contact alumniclassic@gmail.com.

Ticket information: Individual tickets are $10.00 at the door and $8.00 with a canned good.

Students with a school ID is $5.00 and children under 10 years old are free. All canned goods will be donated to St. Mary’s Food Bank.

This is an epic event created by former ASU basketball player Lester Neal and former University of Arizona basketball player Apryl Garnett-Neal.

“Phoenix is in the beginning stages of what will become a city-wide tournament featuring 50, 60 and up to a 100 alumni basketball teams competing for new bragging rights and an Alumni Championship,” said tournament founder Lester Neal. “We look forward to seeing rivalries renewed and passionate fans past and present come out and cheer for their schools.”

Event subject to change without notice.
