Exploring the Best Beaches in the Philippines

One of the most stunning aspects of this diverse country is its set of beaches. There are over 7,000 islands in the Philippines, and these islands host a wonderful array of white sand beaches with diverse and abundant marine life just below the surface. The Philippines is a great place to dive or snorkel. Some beaches are popular and busy while others are unexplored and very quiet.

Choose your favorite Philippines beach from our pick of the best, below:

1) El Nido, Palawan

El Nido is one of the beaches that always comes up on a list of the best in the Philippines. The white sands and the wonderful clear sea are surely winners, but also the setting is outstanding with the limestone rocks towering out of the sea and the waterfalls and jungle interior of the island. It is a great place to explore the waterfalls, venture into the caves, and go diving to see some of the endangered species like turtles and sea cows.

2) Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro

Puerto Galera is located around 130km from the capital city of Manila. There are some wonderful beaches here that are ideal when you like swimming and snorkeling. There are also abundant diving opportunities with plenty of marine life to encounter. It is a more accessible set of beaches than Boracay if you do not have the time to get to this Philippines favorite.

3) Bantayan Island, Cebu

Cebu is a really interesting place to visit with some lovely historical places and also a lot to see in the natural environment. The islands on the outer edges of Cebu are outstanding, particularly Bantayan Island. It is not very crowded while still being very beautiful. It is a prime place to come to get away from it all.

4) Panglao Island, Bohol

Panglao has beautiful white sand beaches and clear waters to swim and dive in, and it is also one of the best places in the country to come see the amazing diversity of life in the sea and on land. The most well-known beach on the island of Panglao is Alona Beach, and this can be a little busy. But you can also have a good experience at Dumaluan and Doljo beaches on the same island. You can also visit the Chocolate Hills nearby, and visit the Loboc River, while also enjoying the chance to sample some excellent seafood.

5) White Beach, Boracay, Aklan

White Beach is the most popular beach on probably the most popular island – Borcacay. It is the place many people go for vacations and it has a wide stretch of white sand that provides everything you need for some beach enjoyment. You can go kite surfing, swimming, laze on the beach, explore the bars and cafes, and chill out on the sand. If you are looking for peace and quiet there are other resorts that are a little further away from White Beach.

6) Palaui Island, Cagayan Valley

This place is very out-of-the-way but it is a rewarding place to visit when you make the effort. You can see the wonderful white sands as well as volcanic rocks and some lovely waters with coral and plenty of fish. To get to the best beach you do need to walk across some unforgiving terrain. And there are no hotels or resorts here – you’ll have to do a homestay or camp.

7) Calaguas, Camarines Norte

The special Calaguas islands hold much appeal for those that love a good beach. The string of beaches along these little islands has perfect soft sand and there are some attractive volcanic rock formations to view.

8) Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte

Siargao is most famous for being one of the best, and most popular, surfing spots in the Philippines. Here you’ll find plenty of surf for everyone from the beginner to pros. But there are also spots on the island without waves, which are ideal for just hanging out and relaxing. This island is ideal for a high-octane break or simply soaking up the sun.

9) Samal, Davao

You may not have heard of Samal but once you see it, you can’t forget it. This beach destination is primed with gorgeous clear waters and a massive 100-plus kilometers of shoreline to enjoy. There are plenty of resorts to choose from, whether you are looking for cheap and cheerful backpacker accommodation or more luxurious digs.
