Phuket already has two large shopping complexes, Central Festival Phuket in Phuket Town, and Jungceylon in Patong. Over the last 10 years, there has been another name which has been speculated to be launching a further complex in Phuket – The Mall. However, these were purely rumours and were never confirmed. But in the last 2 years, more serious discussions have taken place about the launch of shopping complex here in Phuket, and with many large plots of land being cleared and prepared for which appear to be pretty large projects, residents to the island have just been waiting for an announcement to be made about the new ownership of the land, and for the fireworks to mark the launch of such an anticipated project.

Unfortunately, for those waiting for the fireworks to go off, that isn’t going to happen, as on Tuesday 6th May 2014, The Mall Group, owners of Bangkok’s Siam Paragon announced, without all the expected pomp and glory, that it will be investing 60 billion baht into the development of six new megaprojects, 20 billion baht of which will go into the construction of Blu Pearl Phuket, a huge retail, hotel and entertainment development which is to be located on a 150-rai plot of land not too far away from its arch rivals Central Festival Phuket and will be ready for operation in 2017.

Below are some sample project pictures of Blu Pearl which were shown at the press conference last Tuesday which have been widely spread on social networking sites. (Unofficial)

Although very few details about the “Blu Pearl Phuket” have been released, the announcement is sure to build excitement for the residents of Phuket, and is sure to give The Central Group, who are still remaining quiet on the details of their upcoming project “Central Phase 3 (Luxury),” to be built on the land that formerly housed the Thai Nan Restaurant, something to think about.

“The group’s vision is to develop Phuket into a world-class resort and shopping destination. The Blu Pearl Phuket is slated to be the leading world-class luxury retail and entertainment resort destination in Asia” said Supaluck Umpujh, The Mall Group’s Vice-Chairwoman.

Where exactly will Blu Pearl Phuket be?

The Phuketindex.com team has been hearing many rumours about a mall development over the last few months, and one of those rumours led us to a large area of land what is now part empty and part coconut plantation in Kathu, close to Tesco Lotus on the bypass, which is where it is believed the development will be located.
