Lahore :The PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2015 opened to a packed auditorium on Saturday at the Expo Centre. Designers, both the stalwarts and the fresh ones, presented some of their best on the ramp, including the likes of Fahad Hussayn, Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Show participants, Misha Lakhani, Zonia Anwaar and Nickie Nina.
The PFDC audience, which involves a wide array of the media fraternity including socialites, journalists, bloggers, designers, fashionistas, make-up artists and stylists, buyers, retailers, supporters and other members of the industry, were seen in their full attendance, donning the best of designer wear and local brands.
Acclaimed designer and retail king Fahad Hussayn opened PSFW 2015, with his collection titled Democrats Midsummer. Hussayn’s collection that mainly dealt with digital prints, was noticeable for its detailed work and intricate embroidery. With minimal embellishments and flair skirts, the use of a dark colour palette (signature of Hussayn) flaunting colourful digital prints on organza, silk and chiffon added to the lustre of Hussayn’s collection. Stylish as it was, the collection was chic, wearable and very marketable. The digital print jackets for men paired with black pants made some statement on the ramp.
The Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Show comprised of collections by Asrar Yaqoob, Hisham Malik, Najia Qazi and Nida Waqar. Asrar Yaqoob made his PSFW debut at the segment with a collection titled Camel Art. With a colour palette of red and white, I loved the collection for its perfect stitching and fittings, scarce use of embellishments with the fabric and the cuts doing all the talking. Malik’s collection titled Zirah, stood out for its very feminine cuts that involved neck tie tops with floor length skirts, drapes and lightly embellished gowns. Qazi also made her PSFW debut with a women’s wear collection titled Sar Bakaf. Striped pants, jackets, fitted pants, scarves and blouses were Qazi’s way of expressing how women stand equal to men by looking powerful, in control and very stylish at the same time. Waqar showcased a collection titled Creatures and Curious Minds, which like Qazi’s collection, involved scarves, jackets paired with straight pants and a blouse and jumpsuits.
Lakhani was up next with her collection titled Modern Mughal. A cool colour palette, definitely a pre-req for any summer wardrobe addition, Lakhani worked well with chiffon, organza, silk voile, silk shantung, stretch satin, slubbed linen and lace with pearls, piping, appliqué, cutwork and beautiful jewelled belts and gladiator flats. The chiffon bustier jumpsuits seemed like the perfect summer wardrobe must have.
Anwaar who marked her fourth showcase at the PSFW with a collection titled Zambezi, showcased an ensemble on ramp, worthy of a standing ovation. Her collection was extremely stylish and very wearable; sexy and sultry. The beach dresses, organza tops, with black camisoles and flowy lowers streamlined with orange embroidery looked beautiful. Paired with minimal but statement jewellery and bags, the jackets stood out for their simple cuts, worn like a drape over a dress. Job well done!
Next up was Natasha Kamal with her collection titled Le Nouvel Esprit. The peach and ivory skirts with cutout designs paired with white striped bustier looked fresh and very summery. Actress Hina Bayat flanked by Turkish model Nur Maden showstopped for Kamal. Hina looked graceful as ever, oozing beauty and confidence, clad in a gold and white sari wearing stunning gold cuffs. Loosened white rose tops made quite a statement on the ramp.
Day 1’s finale was presented by Nickie Nina who showcased their luxury prêt collection titled Chambeli. What a fantastic finale indeed! Just when you thought neon was over and done with for our wardrobes, the designer duo presented neon bags paired with ivory coloured outfits, making the dress stand out for its simplicity and the intricate embroidery. Shararas and straight pants, embroidered with white thread and light embellishments spoke volumes of the designer duo’s fashion acumen. Net pants with light embellishments and net tops with corresponding sleeves were noticeably good. Regal and very sophisticated! Embroidered lehngas with sequined shirts and dupatta looked beautiful. Above all, the make-up and styling for Nickie Nina’s show added to the glamour of the collection. Tyed hair with pink eye shadow, light rouge and nude lips should definitely be the summer’s make-up trend. Kudos to the creative team at Nabila’s for the hair and make-up.
The choreography for the show has been conducted by HSY, whereas the media and PR is being handled by Lotus.
