Are you hoping to start advertising your business or selling your products online? Don’t have enough money to hire a professional photographer? If so, don’t panic. Our photography equipment reviews and our list of best practices may just help you get through the process without hiring outside help.

First, take a look at our photography equipment reviews and use them to help you snag a high quality, reasonably, digital camera whose features you are well familiar with. Once you get the reasonably price camera of choice in your hands, take a series of practice shots. After all, even though you may be familiar with the features in general, each camera has its own little idiosyncrasies.

When you are ready to take photos for inclusion in your business directory listings, pay close attention to what’s in the background. Avoid taking pictures that include personal items some people may find off putting. Examples include shots that contain items related to politics, religion, controversial groups and hot button issues. If necessary, set up a background using items like the following:

Chroma Key (e.g. Blue or Green Screens)

Continuous Paper

Canvas

Muslin

Prices for the various backgrounds vary as do their ease of use. For the most part, chroma key tends to be easy on the purse and the most versatile of the four types mentioned above. However, some new photographers find it confusing at first. So you might want to go old school and stick to the paper, canvas or muslin.

To continue, be mindful of the photo’s size. Not all photos will look as good shrunk down to listing size as they do at full capacity. So be sure to experiment with cropping, resizing and framing before finally uploading the photo to your business directory listings. Otherwise, you could end up with a photo that will drive business away instead of attract it to your doors.
