My family dines out far more often than we should, and for me, it is all about the presentation (and the fact that I don’t have to clean up the dishes!).

Slowly, our habit of eating out (and ordering two starters and a couple desserts every time) caught up with us, and now we are committed to making healthy choices (that often don’t taste nearly as good). More than ever, the way my food looks is what draws me in. Food photography is SO important! Think about each time you saw a recipe online or in a magazine. You might not have thought about it, but the photographer designed it to catch your interest and make you want to devour the dish for yourself.

You’re much more likely to stop and take a look at a recipe with a beautiful picture, than you are to check out something with no image (or a crummy image), right?

I love the way these shots were styled! The pops of color really make the pictures pop. Click the image for some awesome inspiration (and recipes!) from Tartine and Apron Strings!

My favorite healthy splurge is a napa chicken salad (pictured below): a bed of mixed greens tossed with apples, goat cheese, dried cherries, corn, avocado, toasted almonds, cilantro, tomatoes, and chicken, coated in an amazing honey mustard vinaigrette. It is beautiful. It makes me want to eat it! Make yourself one sometime, your taste buds will thank you!

*If you live in the Midwest, you can try the salad on your next date night at Cooper’s Hawk Winery!

You can’t honestly tell me this doesn’t look delicious. It’s so good it was written up in the Chicago Daily Herald during restaurant week this year!

Is this salad screaming my name? Not so much. McDonald’s didn’t win me over after looking at this salad! Wellness.com wasn’t a fan of this salad either.

Which salad would you rather have?!

Food photography isn’t as easy as you may think! We’re not talking about snapping a pic with your phone, throwing a filter on it and hash tagging it to death on Instagram either.
