Fog is a group of liquid water droplets. Fog forms when the variation between temperature and dew point is generally less than 2.5 °C or 4°F. Fog is also considered as low-lying cloud.
Fog can form suddenly, and can disperse just as rapidly when the sunshine shown. It depend what side of the dew point the temperature is on. There are different types of fog but Bangladesh contains significantly two types of fog.
Foggy Morning, Bangladesh
Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon type climate with hot and rainy summer and the winter is dry. January is the coolest month with 26°C (78°F). High season of winter is between October to March. Due to the location beside Sea and Mountain both surrounded by Bangladesh; generally radiation or ground fog and advection fog can be seen in Bangladesh. As Bangladesh is close to Bay of Bengal – it is often summoned by advection/sea fog when warm air flow relatively cold sea surface. Also being close to Himalayan Bangladesh face ground fog comes through wind and surface the ground area.
Fog mainly appears in northern districts in Bangladesh .In rural area farmers start their days with deep fog and maintain heavy cloth.
Rural citizen enjoy fog and invite winter with various rural festivals like Poush-parbon. Delicious foods are made with new rice and date juice to celebrate “Poush Parbon” (Bengali: পৌষপার্বণ |Meaning: The Poush Festival) or “Pithe Parbon” (পিঠেপার্বণ ).
It was mainly named after Bengali month of Poush and last day of that month is being celebrated as Poush Sankranti. It is also called as “Pithe Parbon” where people make several category of rice cake with palm juice and date juice.
Deep Fog in Bangladesh
Sometime the fog is so deep that thinks of distance places can hardly be seen. Most of the cases fog effect business and regular work. Every year due to heavy fog most of the biggest shipping area and ferry in river get stuck for half of the day.
Significantly 2010-2014, every year several major river and ferry parking zone was shut down for several days due to heavy deep fog. Most of the cases fog brings unwanted accidents in the road, river with its thickness.
Still, winter is blessing for Bangladesh. Dew drops fall into the grass and leafs overnight, when the sun appeared the light reflect through the grass and leafs, it glitters like diamond. Bangladesh decor herself every season in different faces.
