It’s late. You just left the Valley’s newest hot spot, an evening at the theater, or a party that just didn’t have the right carbohydrates to stem what you’re feeling now — hunger. It’s a long drive home and you’d like to get some food in your stomach before hitting the pillow; good thing the Valley has more than a few eateries still open late to satisfy those late night cravings.
Here are some late night food spots to help hit the spot when the witching hour becomes the “sandwiching hour.”
Welcome Diner

Located on the edge of Roosevelt Row in Downtown Phoenix’s Garfield neighborhood, this 1940’s style Valentine’s Diner may be small in size but it’s big on food. Welcome Diner serves up cocktails and southern style comfort food for those who prefer dining at the diner’s nine indoor stools or on its large outdoor patio. Among the menu items you’ll find: scratch-made Biscuits and Gravy with Eggs and Fried Green Tomato Sandwiches alongside the highly rated PB&B — a crunchy peanut butter bacon burger — and poutine, a classic Canadian import that brings fries together with smothered country gravy and melted cheddar. Welcome Diner’s cozy, hipster-ish vibe makes it a popular go-to for the up late and hungry crowd.

Zio’s Pizza & Wings

If you’ve got the late night hungries and you don’t feel like dining out, there’s always the delivery or takeout option from 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. at Zio’s Pizza & Wings in Mesa. The menu doesn’t stray far from the name with subs, cheesesteaks, wraps, gyro and pasta also among the offerings. There is even a kids’ menu for smaller hungry tummies. Dining in is also an option if you don’t mind Zio’s modest appearance. Making deliveries after midnight and into the early morning hours gets Zio’s a major thumbs up for most late night dwellers.

Delux

A favorite for late night foodies, this trendy, stylish eatery takes pride in its award-winning gourmet burgers and a growing sushi menu. Regulars love Delux’s Mixed Fries basket that includes a mix of sweet potato and regular shoe string fries. As with all of Delux’s burger offerings, its signature Delux Burger, which will give you a roughly $12 head start on your tab, is made from fresh ground all-natural Niman Ranch beef burgers that adhere to grain-fed, anti-hormone standards. Delux also serves up turkey burgers, veggie burgers and a Fresh Mahi Mahi Sandwich for diners with discerning palates. There are plenty of beers to choose from on the drinks menu and a key lime pie favorite is among the choices on a rich dessert menu that also includes chocolate lava cake and a double chocolate stout float.

After-party revelers looking for a Mexican food fix, a la medianoche, can find one at Taqueria Los Yaquis outside of Charlie’s nightclub in Central Phoenix. The $1 street tacos are all the rage at this taco food truck that frequently draws long lines, long into the wee hours of the morning. Taqueria-goers have declared Taqueria’s tacos among the best the Valley has to offer. Taqueria’s other offerings – mini quesadillas, beef and chicken burritos and even hot dogs and hamburgers – have also been described as fresh, flavorful and filling. With its location next to the nightclub, Taqueria’s visitors can enjoy the music piping through the parking lot while waiting for their food. It’s a unique dining experience for those who don’t mind Taqueria’s rustic restaurant style and the simplicity of its outdoor picnic tables.

Four Peaks Brewing Company

Personal pizzas, brewery burgers and alehouse sandwiches help make Tempe’s Four Peaks Brewing Company a popular after hours spot for late-night lager lovers who like to pair with their beer. Four Peaks’ Southwest and Popper Burgers come highly recommended along with 10-inch pizzas dressed in barbecue chicken, Italian sausage and other pizza toppings. Guests also enjoy Four Peaks’ patio for outdoor dining and sampling the brewery’s craft beers and beer flights.

Cafe Ga Hyang

If you’re out late in the West Valley, Cafe Ga Hyang is also open late for your Korean Food cravings. It’s an unassuming hole in the wall gem that gets high praises for its varied menu. The Dak-Galbi (chicken barbecue), salmon entree and spicy octopus stir fry for adventurous palates are among the many recommended dishes at this small, cozy, family-owned business. There is also an array of side dishes to explore. Serving staff is limited, so guests should anticipate a bit of a wait, especially if tables and booths are occupied with other patrons.

The Vig (Arcadia) and The Vig Uptown

With a 2 a.m. closing time, visitors to The Vig, Arcadia or Uptown, have ample time to enjoy late-night fare and live entertainment throughout the week. The restaurant offers an eclectic late-night menu that includes everything from wings, or “Vings” as The Vig calls them, to guacamole and chips, mac and cheese and the “Vigazz Burger”— a favorite for those looking to satiate that late night appetite. Regulars enjoy the cozy, dimly lit atmosphere and patio at both locations, along with a mix of live and dj music plus the opportunity to play cornhole or bocce ball.

Hanny’s
Constructed in 1947, this once fashionable department store is now home to a trendy restaurant and bar whose kitchen cooks until 1 a.m. and bar pours until 1:30 a.m. A wide array of 1940s-era cocktails complements Hanny’s high brow appetizer menu, gourmet pizzas, sandwiches and steak and pork entrees. A DJ keeps the atmosphere lively and energetic in this iconic Phoenix building. Visitors can also check out sightseeing spots amid the mirrored hallways of Hanny’s second-floor lounge accessible by way of the restaurant’s glass-bottomed elevator shaft.
