2nd Annual Chapter Challenge, a regional youth lacrosse festival for boys and girls that will held on the pristine and spacious grounds of the Brandywine Polo Club in Chester County May 3-4. Registration is now open (www.chapterchallenge.net). Last year, 80 teams enjoyed the inaugural event. The Chapter Challenge will support the Philadelphia Lacrosse Association, the chapter of US Lacrosse that promotes the game and provides programs and services to members of the lacrosse community in Eastern Pennsylvania. The PLA sponsors lacrosse-related activities, including charitable events, hosts national team exhibitions, conducts clinics for coaches and officials, and manages the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Over the years, the PLA has provided over $350,000 to help fund new programs and other lacrosse initiatives in the region (including efforts to grow the game in the City Philadelphia).

Divisions: Boys U9 (1st/2nd grades); Boys/Girls U11 (3rd/4th grades); Boys/Girls U13 (5th/6th grades); Boys/Girls U15 (7th/8th grades); Divisions will feature two or more brackets to help teams find the appropriate level of play; U9, U11 and U13 Boys’ teams will play on Saturday, May 3rd; U15 Boys’ teams will play on Sunday morning, May 4th; All Girls’ teams will play on Sunday, May 4th.

Registration fee – $475 (all teams will play 3 games with certified officials on meticulously-staged tournament fields). Registration Deadline: April 25, 2014 (or until brackets are full).

The Challenge: As a key component of the “Challenge,” we are also asking all participating teams to do one of two things, they are not mandatory but we are hoping to further some worthy objectives with your support:

Challenge Partners: Each team is asked to make a $200 contribution to the PLA (this donation is separate from and in addition to the registration fee and will inure entirely to the benefit of the PLA). The team can make the donation itself or arrange for a business or other benefactor to make the donation to the PLA as the team’s “Challenge Partner.” All contributors and Challenge Partners will be recognized for their support on the Chapter Challenge website, on the PLA website, and in a press release before and after the event; OR

Stick Donations / HEADstring Initiative: Each team can organize a used stick collection drive and to bring/donate the sticks to the event. The PLA will arrange for the donated sticks to be restrung and recycled to support lacrosse in the City of Philadelphia. The PLA has partnered with HEADstrong Foundation (which is contributing its distinctive lime green mesh) in connection with this “HEADstring” initiative. We hope not only to give donated boys’ and girls’ sticks new life and help spread the game, but to communicate a message of character, toughness, integrity and perseverance reminiscent of HEADstrong’s founder to the recipients of our refurbished sticks. The PLA and HEADstrong, jointly, will give those who help with this stick collection effort community service recognition.

Summer Camps

Box-Out Lacrosse Camp, July 1-2 at Yale University’s Reese Stadium with Yale coach Andy Shay and Philly coaches Adam Muller and Todd MacFarlane. The Box-Out Lacrosse camp is designed to introduce field players to box lacrosse in an outdoor setting.. Box-Out Lacrosse Camp, and Box-Out Lacrosse Camp Lite are restricted to 180 players. We will accept no more than 30 players in each box, and we will restrict each division to 30 players. If interest dictates, we may open a second group in one age division. The two day session includes specialized box lacrosse drills and instruction and many small game scenarios as well as actual box lacrosse games. Click here at box-out.com to get more information and to register. The Box-Out Lacrosse Camp Lite is being held July 3. Box-Out Lacrosse Camp Lite is a hyperspeed, abridged version of our two day curriculum. You will be doing the same drills, but you will be getting three total sessions as opposed to six. You may, by all means, sign up for both camps meaning you would get three days total of lacrosse. The curriculum, while somewhat redundant, would be well worth repeating. Tuition includes lunch BUT NOT DINNER as you will have ample time to leave the facility for dinner. We are in negotiations with an on site caterer as well.

NXTsports’ Trashcan Lacrosse summer camps (for boys aged 7 to 14) at Episcopal Academy, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, The George School, United Sports Training Center and Westtown School. Trashcan has also added national locations in Hartford, Conn. and North Shore, Park Ridge and Naperville, Ill. The summer skills curriculum is specified to refresh each player’s enthusiasm to play the game of lacrosse and prevent “game drain.” Game drain is prevalent in players burned out from the spring lacrosse season, school year and the grind of getting better every day (GBE). Trashcan Lacrosse Camps and the summer skills curriculum account for the factors that lead to game drain. The Trashcan camp experience integrates a memorable camp experience and the training to build upon the previous spring’s accomplishments. The Trashcan Lacrosse Skill Development Curriculum (SDC) is built around a Play Fast drill book, box infusion, progression drills and the game of Trashcan Lacrosse: the dynamic 2v2 pick-up game that focuses on playing fast and mastering the art of the 2v1. Trashcan’s popularity has skyrocketed by more than doubling in attendance in the past year. To register, visit TrashcanLacrosse.com.
