Club tryouts

Militia Lacrosse tryouts:Sunday, Sept. 29 and Oct. 13, The Phelps School. (Malvern, PA), $25 non-refundable fee via web electronically (credit card or E-check) www.militialacrosse.org. Check-in begins 30 minutes before each tryout session, and players must register online prior to attending. You have to try out to be considered for a summer 2014 Militia team.Try-outs dates and times: 12:00 – 1:15 PM Class of & 2022 (4th); 1:30 – 3:00 PM Class of 2020, 2021 (6th & 5h grade);3:00 – 4:30PM Class of 2018 & 20199 (8th & 7th grade). Please make sure all of the above are complete and upon acceptance you will be emailed an invitation to join one of our teams. Players accepted will be asked for a $100 deposit to hold their position on the team. A payment schedule will be given as well as off season instructional opportunities for club members. Any player who is a member of the Summer 2014 team will automatically be invited to participate in the Fall 2014 Season provided their account is in good standing and they were a productive team member. Fusion Lacrosse 2017, 2018 tryouts, Oct. 6 and Oct. 13 at Malvern Prep, 2-4 p.m. for Class of 2018 and 4-6 p.m. for Class of 2017. Players are expected but not required to attend both tryouts. Cost is $35 for pre-registration, $45 for walk-ups (all receive Fusion pinney). Fusion is run by professional players Steve Holmes and Kevin Crowley and is a new training center that specializes in developing young players of all ages through both box and field lacrosse. HEADstrong Delco/Chesco U-15 tryouts, October 13 at Widener University’s Leslie C. Quick Stadium, Chester, 9 a.m.-noon. The tryout is open to all U-15 players from Delaware and Chester counties. A try-out fee of $40.00 is required per player and is due at Tryout Registration. All major credit cards will be accepted as well as checks made out to the HEADstrong Lacrosse Club.

Main Line Lacrosse Club’s additional high school tryouts for 2013-14 club lacrosse season (Classes of 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), Monday, October 14th, 6-8 p.m., at Villanova Stadium on the Villanova University campus. Attendance for tryouts will cost $30 and can be paid online at www.mainlinelacrosseclub.com. A walk-up fee of $45 will be charged if a player has not registered online prior to October 14th. If accepted into the club, tuition for the 2013-14 season will be $1,650 and includes tournament fees, uniforms, practices and coach’s salaries. The tryout is open and youth players have the opportunity to play up on the high school team if selected. *All high school aged players must live within 50 miles of Villanova University (800 E. Lancaster Ave, Villanova, Pa.19085) to tryout due to NCAA rules and regulations.
Leagues

Fusion Lacrosse/Bucksmont (BISC) Box Lacrosse League. Sundays, 11/23/13-2/23/14. Fusion lacrosse combines league play with its elite instruction. Professional Players, and local coaches Kevin Crowley and Steven Holmes, run 4 practice sessions (1.25 hrs each) for every team in the league. Eight weeks are reserved for box lacrosse league games lasting an hour each. The 13th and final week of the league is the league tournament with championship games. Fusion’s rulebook keeps the integrity of the great game of box lacrosse while cutting out certain elements that don’t translate outdoors. The three divisions are 5/6 grade, 7/8th grade, and Junior Varsity. Spots are very limited with four teams in each division, with teams already having committed. Maplezone Winter Indoor League for boys and girls youth to high school, at Maplezone on the Conchester Highway in Boothwyn. The league features elite boys and girls programs from the area. The winter lacrosse league will begin the first week of December and run through the middle of February with playoffs and championship games for all levels. This league will fill up quickly so please do not miss out on the opportunity to play lacrosse through those winter months in a climate controlled environment. NXTsports/United Sports’ box lacrosse league, with modified box rules, designed to foster the skill-development that comes from playing in tight quarters, but with limited contact to create a completely safe environment. The league will debut the weekend of December 7-8 at the United Sports with a series of clinics for participating coaches, players, goalies and referees. The clinics will review game rules, coaching practices, and provide basic skill sessions for players and goalies. League games will be played Sundays, starting on Sunday, December 8, and the league will wrap with playoffs and championships on Sunday, February 16. The league will feature youth and high school divisions. Additional details regarding scheduling, age brackets, and all other information will be released shortly. Clinics

The 7th Annual Ricky Whelan Dukes Developmental Program, an instructional series that leads to the tryouts for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club. The program – featuring five sessions – continues on Oct. 6. The times are 4-6 pm. Coach Joe Proud and the Harriton Boys Lacrosse Boosters will be hosting the clinics. Walkup registration will start at 3:15pm. The Dukes tryouts are slated for Oct. 13th at Chestnut Hill College. This program is for intermediate to advanced high school players. Advanced 8th grade or 7th graders who wish to attend need to contact Coach Jason Christmas (JOHNJC32XMAS@aol.com).

The clinics will be emphasizing high intensity drills and skill sets to improve players’ reaction time and decision making in unsettled/settled transition pressure situations. Up tempo pace will be encouraged defensively and offensively from 1v1 situations to 2v1 and mandown/manup scenarios all the way up to 6v6 settled sets. These sessions will give players preparation for the Dukes tryouts while improving lacrosse IQ and field sense.

Preregistration fees ($375 for all 5 sessions or $80 at walkup registration ) can be mailed and must be received before September 7th. Discount rates (5 members per team) $10 off. Black Bear Lacrosse off-season training package, 422 Sportsplex in Pottstown, starting September 18 for boys U11 through HS elite. These lacrosse-specific, high intensity, one hour sessions will focus on a variety of position-specific drills that provide superior instruction at a very affordable rate ($150). Players will also work on footwork and agility drills to develop a quicker step both on offense and defense. Sessions will be broken up into Offensive and Defensive components. Black Bear Lacrosse prides itself in having some the best and most passionate teaching coaches in the area. Cradle Lacrosse, NXTsports’ educational program for the area’s youngest lacrosse players, announces five different Fall 2013 programs around Greater Philadelphia. Cradle Lacrosse is designed to teach basic lacrosse skills to 4-8 year-old boys and girls in a fun, energizing and supportive environment. Cradle Lacrosse provides all the necessary equipment for the kids so there is nothing for parents to buy, and the curriculum is designed to teach the basics of lacrosse to youngsters in an age appropriate and fun way. All Cradle Lacrosse programs are co-ed, and Cradle features a co-ed coaching staff at each session. Cradle’s young and enthusiastic coaching staff is comprised strictly of former college lacrosse players, many of whom are current educators and also coach lacrosse at the high-school level. All participants at Cradle Sessions receive free shirts and additional Cradle gifts.

Trashcan Lacrosse Fall positional clinics for second to eighth grade boys at Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square and at United Sports in Downingtown. The Clinics start Sunday, October 6 and run each weekend in October. The Trashcan Fall Positional Clinics, led by Trashcan’s full coaching staff, focus strictly on positional skill development while still ensuring that every player who attends has success and a lot of fun.

The Trashcan Lacrosse Fall Positional clinics will primarily focus on the individual player and on building the skills that successful attackmen, midfielders, defensemen and goalies need to play at a high level. Arrowhead Lacrosse/Lower Bucks skills development clinics for boys in Grades 5-12, at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School on Sunday October 6th, 13th and 20th from 2:00 – 3:30 PM. Cost is $25 per session. Each of the sessions – Defending the Ball, Dodge, Feed and Shoot, Faceoff Focus and the Complete Goalie – will be offered on all three dates. Register for the days and the clinics you are interested in and note that you can only take part in one clinic per day. Defending the Ball: Whether you play defense, midfield or attack all lacrosse players need to be able to defend a man with the ball. In this clinic we will work on core defense skills such as footwork, body position and how to effectively use your stick. Dodge, Feed and Shoot: Are you a threat to score when you are on offense? In this clinic we will work on core skills of dodging, feeding and shooting from midfield and attack positions. Faceoff Focus: Faceoffs are a critical part of every lacrosse game. This is a clinic for a player wishing to become a dominant faceoff midfielder. We will teach techniques to improve quickness and power. The Complete Goalie: Saving the ball is priority number one for the goalie but they need to be just as good at directing the defense and clearing the ball to be a complete player. Philadelphia Face off Clinic, by Fogolax, Oct. 19 at Haverford College from noon-to-3 p.m. In recent years fogolax athletes have become the premier face off athletes in the nation due to the instruction and repetitions they have received through the program. Maplezone MuckDawgs lacrosse fall training teams: U11, U13, U15 and high school, Conchester Highway in the Boothwyn/Garnet Valley area. Fall teams will begin training on Sunday September 15th and practice for nine consecutive Sundays until November 10th. Each team will play in two November Tournaments. Each player will receive quality instruction with a fundamental approach to the game focusing on high repetitions of basic skills, while advanced players will also receive position specific training along with an emphasis on team concepts and field awareness to increase their lacrosse IQ. In addition to the lacrosse training we have also built in to our practice schedule Speed and Agility sessions facilitated by our in-house Sports Performance Trainer. Golf Outings

The 2013 Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Golf Classic, Monday, October 14th at Bidermann Golf Club in Wilmington. Your participation will support the PLA’s mission to promote the game of lacrosse in the region, particularly the New Start Program, which provides technical and financial assistance to new lacrosse programs. The PLA has provided close to $350,000 in grant support to new lacrosse programs in the area since the outing’s inception in 1993. The PLA is pleased that Vicmead Hunt Club and Bidermann will host the 21st Annual Classic. Originally, the 9-hole private course of Henry Francis du Pont at his Winterthur estate, Bidermann was enlarged, redesigned and established as a private club in 1965 (it later merged with Vicmead). The course offers a traditional style parkland layout with native grasslands separating each golf hole. Please reserve your spot in the outing by registering for the event as soon as possible, but in any event before Monday, October 7th. We have established a new PLA Golf Outing website and encourage you to register on-line (see http://www.plagolfouting.com/). If you are not a golfer or cannot attend the golfing activities, you are welcome to attend the cocktail reception and banquet that begins at 5:30 pm. Brandywine Classic Boys/Girls Lacrosse Tournament, October 26-27, 8:00-6:00PM both Saturday and Sunday; HS Games Saturday, Youth Games Sunday, Brandywine Polo Grounds, 232 Polo Road, Toughkenamon, PA 19374. High school and club teams will compete in the championship formatted tournament, while playing in front of some of the top Division III coaches in the country. Guaranteed 3 x 40 Minute Games. 5th Annual Care for the Cure Tournament, November 9 & 10 at West Chester Henderson High School in West Chester PA. On August 15, 2008 Caroline (Care) Cranston, at 24 years old, was diagnosed with leukemia. In high school, Care played lacrosse for West Chester Henderson and continued her lacrosse career at Duquesne University. Our mission is to bring the lacrosse community together and to raise awareness for this terrible disease. This tournament is a Girls & Boys High School Tournament. There will be both a JV and Varsity Division and will include teams from all over the country. EPLCA/LEAPS First Annual Kroc Invitational Youth Lacrosse Tournament, at The Salvation Army Kroc Center, 4200 Wissahickon Ave in Philadelphia (just off Rt 1 North from the Schuykill Expressway). Four 7/8 grade and four 5/6 grade teams are invited to take part in this inaugural tournament, with all proceeds to benefit the EPLCA and the LEAPS program at the Kroc Center. The tournament will be held on Sunday November 17th, beginning at 8:00 am (for 7/8 grade teams) and 2:00 pm (for 5/6 grade teams). Registration is $500 per team, with all net proceeds benefiting the above named organizations; all teams are guaranteed 3 games. The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, located on a 12+ acre campus (with artificial turf field) in North Philadelphia, is home to the LEAPS program, which offers year-round lacrosse programming to the center’s members and youth lacrosse players in the Philadelphia area. The center provides membership opportunities, as well as a multitude of community programs, to the region as part of The Salvation Army’s overall commitment to improving the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the entire community.

Lacrosse Evolution’s 11th Annual Pumpkin Pie Festival, November 23 & 24 at The Westtown School in West Chester PA. This tournament is a Girls & Boys Festival that will include divisions for both youth community programs and travel lacrosse programs. The divisions include U9/U11/U13/U15 for the boys, and new this year will include a U7 division! The Girls divisions include grades 3/4; 5/6; ad 7/8. The cost of the tournament is $950 per team and includes 3 games all on the same day. The breakdown will be Boys U9 & U15 and Girls on Saturday November 23 and U11 & U13 on Sunday November 24. Pumpkin Pie Box Lacrosse Tournament, Canadian Rules Box Lacrosse Tournament open to teams with players over the age of 18, Nov. 30, on the two turf fields of the Bucks Mont Indoor Sports Center in Hatfield. Teams are guaranteed a minimum of 4 40 minute games with a potential for 6 including playoffs and Championship. Games will begin at 9:00 Saturday Morning and the Final Game will end at 7:30 that night. This tournament will be capped at 12 Teams. In hopes of introducing the game to the Field teams Lenape Lacrosse Company is closely affiliated with, we will be making goalie pads available for teams to borrow. There will be 4 full sets and they will need to be shared with other goalies throughout the course of the day. The cost of entry is $750. Fall Showcase

The Match, a new recruiting showcase with a focus on Division II/III lacrosse-related opportunities, Sunday, October 20th at The Hill School, Pottstown. The Match is specifically designed for players (2017-2014 graduation years) who are (or have the potential to be) strong Division II/III candidates . Participating players must be nominated by a high school or club coach. They will have a chance to showcase their skills in drills, at stations and in games before an impressive array of coaches. The National Showcase a one-day boy’s lacrosse teaching and recruiting event at Germantown Academy November 10. The National Showcase will feature the top high school freshman and sophomore boy’s lacrosse players (2016 & 2017) in the country. The unique format will include speed and agility testing, a teaching component from college coaches and showcase games all in front of premier college lacrosse programs. Winter Showcase

National Invitational 175 DIII Winter Showcase for the Classes of 2015 and 2016, Jan 11-12, 2014, Jupiter Community Park, located 20 minutes from West Palm Beach Airport.and 10 minutes from the beach. All players will play four full games over two days with an additional coaches’ clinic. Players from anywhere in the United states and Canada can apply after carefully reviewing the information at the site, by clicking here. As in past national Invitational 175 events, this is an invite-only event and applying does not guarantee you a spot. Applications will be accepted until Oct 15. Invites will be sent out on Oct. 20.
