Women’s recruits: Ohio State adds McGillis (Conestoga), Solazzo (Ocean City)

Alexis Venechanos, head coach of the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team, welcomed 11 freshmen to Columbus this fall. Along with 26 returning players, the team currently is participating in offseason strength and conditioning workouts before starting its fall ball schedule. The rookie group covers all field positions and hails from five states and Ontario.

A look at the 2013-14 freshman class:

Ali Bulk – Attack – Millstone Township, N.J.

Finished four-year career at Allentown HS with 73 goals and 72 assists as a senior with the team winning the regional championship and advancing to the NJSIAA Group III title game … Named first team all-region and all-conference, while earning third team All-New Jersey honors … Also lettered three years in field hockey.

Meredith Bushell – Defense – Wading River, N.Y.

Played three years at Shoreham Wading River HS after spending freshman year at St. Anthony’s … Earned All-America and All-Long Island honors as a senior … Was part of NYS championship team as a junior in 2012, receiving all-county and ESPN Top 50 juniors recognition in the process … Also played two years of field hockey and ran cross country for one season … High school teammate of fellow Buckeye freshman Paulina Constant.

Morgan Castelein – Midfield – Alamo, Calif.

Helped Carondelet HS to three-consecutive league championships, earning All-EBAL honors each season … Finished career with 144 goals and 104 assists, including a career-high 52 goals as a senior in 2013.

Paulina Constant – Midfield – Wading River, N.Y.

Scored 34 goals and 10 assists during senior season at Shoreham Wading River HS … Was part of NYS championship team as a junior in 2012, earning a spot on the all-tournament team, and as a freshman in 2010 … Also ran cross country and winter track … High school teammate of fellow Buckeye freshman Meredith Bushell.

Shannon Cummings – Midfield – East Islip, N.Y.

Played four years of lacrosse at East Islip HS … Was an all-county selection as a senior in 2013 after two seasons of also being an all-division selection … Named a Minds in Motion honoree all four years … Also earned four letters in soccer, receiving all-conference honors.

Morgan Fee – Midfield – New Albany, Ohio

Lone recruit from Ohio … Helped New Albany HS to the Division II state girls lacrosse final in 2013 and a runner-up finish as a junior in 2012 … Earned All-America honors and was named all-conferece, all-district and all-state during title run … tallied 52 goals and 34 assists with 27 caused turnovers, 56 groundballs and 43 draw controls in senior season … Also lettered one year in volleyball.

Jillian May – Attack – Babylon, N.Y.

Played five years of varsity lacrosse at St. John the Baptist HS, starting in eighth grade … Finished career with 171 total points off 136 goals and 35 assists … Led team to CHSAA Championship game, finishing as the runner-up in 2013 … Earned All-Catholic each of last three seasons and the team’s athlete of the year award as a senior.

Meghan McGillis – Midfield – Berwyn, Pa.

Was the team captain and MVP during senior season Conestoga HS, capping off four-year career as an All-American … Two-time All-Phillylacrosse.com pick and three-time first team all-league and All-Main Line honoree … Also played four years of varsity soccer with honorable mention all-league honors as a defender during senior season.

Allie Ogilvie – Attack – Peterborough, Ontario

Part of three-time Central Ontario Secondary School Athletics (COSSA) Champion lacrosse team at St. Peter’s Secondary School, serving as captain and earning MVP honors in final year … Also played four years of ice hockey, winning four COSSA titles.

Tess Solazzo – Midfield – Ocean City, N.J.

Two-time Atlantic City Press Player of the Year at Ocean City HS … Named team captain and to All-South Jersey, all-county, all-conference teams as a senior … led the state of New Jersey in single-season assists in 2013 and finished with a conference-leading 110 goals … Also ran four years of cross country, finishing as Cape Atlantic League Champs three times, and played three seasons of varsity basketball.

Christina Turner – Midfield – Huntington, N.Y.

Was team captain as a senior at Harborfields HS … Three-time all-county honoree, while leading team in assists and groundballs throughout career … Earned the Coaches Award … Named an academic All-American twice and was a three-time NY state scholar-athlete … Also was a four-year letterwinner in soccer.
