Personnel of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) plans for a mass resignation once Rodrigo Duterte assumed the presidency.
According to the report by Ed Velasco for the Tribune, the start of the mass resignation will be on July 1, which is a day after Duterte took his oath as the 16th President of the Philippines.
The rumors also noted many of the personnel of the BIR were offended with the remarks of Duterte that it is one of the most corrupt bureau of the government along with Bureau of Customs (BoC) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Another reason for this mass resignation is the threats of Duterte to abolish the BIR once he held the highest position in the land.
BIR Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares earlier noted that she was hurt by the allegations to her subordinates.
No Mass Resignation
BIR Public Information and Education Division chief Reymari De La Cruz said the employees won’t resign despite many were affected with the statement.
“While we may have been hurt by the statements of the President-elect Duterte, the said statements are not enough for us to resign and abandon our mandate to collect taxes for our nation-building,” said De La Cruz.
De La Cruz also noted that Deputy Commissioner Lilia Guillermo was not interviewed by the Tribune.
“We ask that Mr. Ed Velasco be more circumspect in what he is writing specially if it involves an institution as critical as the BIR in terms of generating the funds to support government and to sustain a strong country,” said De La Cruz.
