Teammates at the University of Pittsburgh, Patrick Earles and Trent Dillon joined the Spinners together late in the season and this week, they each take home an award for their individual play.

Earles earned the Friction Gloves Catch of the Week thanks to his incredible sky that kept Philadelphia close to D.C. in the second half of last Saturday’s contest, and Dillon took home the Innova Pulsar Throw of the Week thanks to his 70-yard bomb in the first half that went for a score.

“I really like getting the disc moving quickly off of a turnover,” Dillon said. “Art made things super easy by hustling and getting wide open in transition, and it also looks like I got a little lift from the wind. It’s awesome to have been part of a play that is recognized as a play of the week, but I’m still slightly disappointed that the game didn’t go our way in the end.”

Earles had his best game as a pro, posting eight points on four goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Dillon showed how much he has grown since last playing for the Spinners in 2012.

For Earles, the most impressive part about the play is that he lost his cleat in the process.

“It all happened pretty fast,” Earles said. “I had no idea my cleat had come off until afterwards when I saw I was rocking just a sock. Luckily it was close by so I did as I always do and spiked the disc and then ran over and held my cleat up for the crowd to see.

“It’s unfortunate that my best game had to come in the last game of the season, I really wanted that win, and wanted to continue our run, but I’m just grateful for the opportunity the Spinners provided us with. To play at that level, in front of those awesome fans, with my buddies from Pitt, as well as the rest of those awesome guys, that’s why I play. The whole experience will definitely be a highlight of my summer and that catch was a nice little cherry on top.”
