For the first time — and annually henceforth – we are coming together with the other “top guns” in the authentic open source and libre/free spaces, to offer an annual opportunity for convergence among all the opens (55 by last count) that are committed to focusing on the 99% including the five billion poor.

By definition, this local to global network embraces transparency, truth, and trust, and a commitment to multinational ethical evidence-based decision support, natural design, and future-oriented hybrid governance striving to create a prosperous world at peace, a world that works for all.

SHORT URL: http://tinyurl.com/OSE-21

We are not, therefore, a commercially-driven cabal including Google seeking to monetize open source software and hardware for the benefit of a select few. We are instead, a vast network of ethical souls who believe that open source everything — the culture and mind-set of open source — is the true manifestation of an emergence of humanity in harmony with Earth and the cosmos, reaching toward our full potential together.

We explicitly embrace anonymity, identity, privacy, and security — all of which require “closed” assurances for individuals seeking to experiment and innovate without fear of repression. We are Anonymous.  We are We.

Joshua Pearce

OPEN SUSTAINABILITY.  *Joshua Pearce runs the Michigan Tech Open Sustainability Technology Lab, whose research concentrates on the use of open source appropriate technology to find collaborative solutions to problems in sustainability and poverty reduction. Specifically he is interested in exploring the way solar energy can be used to provide clean sustainable electricity with photovoltaic devices and how the sharing of open source hardware and software can create sustainable and equitable means of production. His research group frequently contributes to Appropedia.org and has become well-known for cost annihilation using open hardware including the first viable low-cost metal RepRap 3-D printer, the recyclebot waste plastic extruder, and a wide array of scientific equipment covered in the Open-Source Lab. Andrew Huang

OPEN SESAME – HARDWARE HACKING. *Andrew “Bunnie” Huang is an American hacker, who holds a Ph.D in electrical engineering from MIT and is the author of the freely available 2003 book Hacking the Xbox: An Introduction to Reverse Engineering. Huang is also a member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. As of 2012 he resides in Singapore. Huang was the hardware lead at Chumby; his responsibilities included the design and production of chumby devices, as well as the strategic planning and ecosystem development of the broader chumby hardware platform. He has completed several major projects, ranging from hacking the Xbox, to designing the world’s first fully integrated photonic-silicon chips running at 10 Gbit/s with Luxtera, Inc., to building some of the first prototype hardware for silicon nanowire device research with Caltech. In 2013, bunnie announced that he, in collaboration with Sean ‘xobs’ Cross, was at work on a laptop called Novena. The laptop is expected to be the first of its kind. The hardware and software for the Novena are entirely open and only include components where the manufacturing companies do not require non-disclosure agreements to obtain the documentation necessary for design. Mark McMurtry

OPEN FOOD (AQUAPONICS). *Mark McMurtry is the ‘Inventor of Record’ (1985) of media-based Ecoponics (so-called, Aquaponics). Over time, as major agri-biz companies came to investigate the invention’s patent potential,

Mark quickly “open-sourced” the data and rendered it unpatentable. This opened the door for an entire generation

of hobbyists and horticulturists to discover what we today call flood-and-drain aquaponics. Today Mark lives off the

grid on top of a mountain near Three Forks, Montana.

Philip Rutter

OPEN (PERENNIAL ADAPTIVE) SEEDS. *Philip Rutter is the founder of Badersett Research, a hazelnut and chestnut breeding operation. His work revolves around breeding disease and cold resistant perennial plants – chestnuts and hazelnuts – as a replacement for corn and soybean annual agriculture (average USA erosion is 5 tons of topsoil loss per acre). His plants come true from seed. Only seed-grown plants provide genetic diversity that copes with changing conditions and can avoid the inevitable catastrophic failure of clonal propogated seeds. He promotes the topic of crowd-sourced breeding, where like in history, entire communities bring back plant stewardship back into their culture.

Lee Camp

Lee Camp (born July 21, 1980) is an American stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and activist. He is the host of the weekly comedy news show Redacted Tonight with Lee Camp on RT America.

He gained a lot of attention when he appeared on Fox News morning show Fox & Friends in 2008, when, before the presidential campaign, they asked him to do left-wing jokes along with a right-wing comedian. Instead he went live on air saying “What is Fox News? It’s just a parade of propaganda, isn’t it? It’s just a…festival of ignorance.” The video clip went viral online and was viewed by millions.

Camp bears a tattoo on his left forearm, a quote from Howard Zinn, which says “Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can quietly become a power no government can suppress, a power than can transform the world.”  Full bio.
