Cats and dogs are trend to be most popular pet at home. However, nowadays fish are observed to be most accepted pet competing with dogs and cats all around the world. In today’s world people tend to live in smaller houses and it becomes practical to own a pet that takes less of physical space and comes with less nagging. Here is where this charming and serene creature of nature comes and marks its presence gracefully. In addition, they come with three lifetime assurances that they will not ever pee on your bed or carpet, wont torn parts your clothes; will not chew away your newly bought slippers. Fish is said to be most compatible pet for those who can’t devote much time towards their pet. Today I will introduce you to a kind of fish which is known as the Siamese fighting fish, or pleasantly called as Betta. This fighter fish was first discovered in Southeast Asia where it learnt to conquer frequent storm flooding and devastating droughts. Betta is vibrantly-colored fish, who would love to swim alone and can be kept at your home or office.

The fighter fish is known to be tough and strong that it can survive even in small spaces, poor and oxygen-deficient water. But that does not allow anyone to go easy on this fish and let it survive in those brutal circumstances. For natural and healthy growth of this multi-hued fish, one needs to maintain it in at least two gallons of water and of course with regular changes, twice or thrice in week. However, make sure you only replace a third of the water each time as fish can face problem adjusting to the completely replaced water, which can eventually disturb the biological balance of the fish’s initial environment for the reason that replaced water will have dissimilar temperature and pH value. One more important thing to keep in mind while changing the water or cleaning the aquarium, is never to use soap or any kind of disinfectant. Even a leftover small molecule of soap inside the aquarium or on any ornament or decoration can cause damage to fish’s health. You may use plain warm water for cleaning which will work absolutely fine.

The foremost thing to know before petting a Betta fish is if water is any less than two gallons in the aquarium, the fish may die within few weeks. Therefore, it is always sensible to make space for this fish in advance and then get this beautiful creature in your life. Your Betta would require water temperature around 25.5° to 26.5 C, and it should never drop below 23.5° C. A Betta normally lives two to three years; however, there are examples where it lived for more than four years. It is advisable to keep only one Betta fish in an aquarium. Pet owner need not to worry about their Betta’s companion. The fish like to play hide and seek, they prefer hiding places like aquatic caves and live or artificial plants to make them feel comfortable and safe. Male Bettas are defensive and can turn aggressive towards any other fish inside the aquarium that they think is another male Betta trying to occupy their region. Two male Bettas in an aquarium will not live peacefully; they will fight, nip and tear each other’s fins resulting in infection.

Betta is truly non-vegetarian; it is untrue that it can survive eating plants. They require such a balanced diet, which has right amount of vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber that improves Betta’s coloring and life expectancy.

To strengthen Betta’s immune system it needs a good diet involving dried blood worms, brine shrimp or daphnia easily available. Bettas have low appetites and it eats only once a day. Do not feed your Betta more than once or maximum twice, keeping in mind the risk of over feeding. The unconsumed food in the tank will make water quality poor sooner giving birth to diseases. After the feeding the fish, you may remove any uneaten food left in the tank manually.

Proper care and healthy environment helps Betta to achieve longevity and be the friend of their owners for a long time. A Betta fish can be trained to do tricks or play games so that it don’t seem as if the fish is bored to death with its life & so a handful of tricks should also be kept in mind while practicing good care for your baby fish.

A fish is a pet that can make you forget your mental stress & can give you immense patience & calm as just looking at it slowly moving into the quiet water proves very relaxing & you do not have to worry much about them as fish demand very less maintenance than any other animal. Now you may go ahead and pet a Betta!
