Cyprus hosts the FIVB U21 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships which is one of the top Beach Volleyball Events in the world this year and in term of importance it ranks right after the Olympic Games and the Men’s & Women’s World Championships. It is one of four world class events the Federation International of Volley Ball organizes each year for young athletes under the age of 23 (U17, U19, U21, U23), where future olympians from all 5 continents will compete for the title of World's Best.
While the Cyprus Volleyball Federation has hosted several FIVB Challenger and Satellite events, this is the second event Larnaca will held held, since the city has presented the 2012 FIVB U19 World Championships.
