Today the Makeup Wars member are sharing our favourite perfumes! Funny thing is, even though I have a rather expansive fragrance collection, I don’t actually own full bottles of most of my favourite scents.

My Recently Discontinued Baby

One of my favourite scents is the now discontinued Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle. It is the “clean” scent I had always been searching for but didn’t know how to find. I had a scent in my mind that I considered clean that I was unable to articulate into fragrance notes until I started delving deeper into the amazing world of fragrance. Turns out I love vetiver and Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle is the scent that perfectly satisfied my years long search. A couple years after falling in love with it Guerlain announced it’s discontinuation. I was lucky enough to have a fabulous fragrance loving friend who helped me acquire a bottle before they disappeared forever as, until that point, I had only been able to indulge in my pricey addiction via a generous sized decant. I still have some of my decant left so my precious bee bottle baby is resting safely nestled in her packaging.

Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle is a woody floral musk. Notes are:

Top: Orange blossom and bergamot

Heart: Honeysuckle, nutmeg and lily-of-the-valley

Base: Tonka bean and vetiver.

Current Favourites

Another favourite fragrance note of mine is violet. I have several favourite violet scents. Unfortunately, while these are some of my all-time favourites, I have yet to acquire full bottles of any of them. Let’s first talk about Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black ($66 CAD/30ml). This perfume is absolutely INCREDIBLE. It is a woody scent. Sexy, edgy, and mysterious. I can’t get enough of this intoxicating and sultry woody blend of Violet, Sandalwood, and Vanilla. I have a rollerball of this and I simply must get a full bottle. It also happens to be a unisex scent. Hmm maybe I can buy it for my husband for Christmas and pretend I’ve done so for totally selfless reasons. Nirvana Black layers beautifully with the floral Elizabeth and James Nirvana White. They finally came out with a Nirvana Black Gift Set, which includes the 30ml fragrances and the new oil, so I may just have to finally bite the bullet! edit: I just ordered the gift set! Woot woot!

Yet another unowned favourite scent is Balenciaga L’Essence. It is a floral green mix of vetiver and violet. Yes. My two favourite notes in harmony in one incredible scent. My own personal heaven. I have been surviving off of a small decant and several samples and I simply must get my hands on the full bottle. I’ve asked for it for two years running for Christmas but my husband refuses to buy me more “smelly water” when I have mountains of perfume already. Justified point but I need to own my favourites. Right?

Future Favourite

I recently received a lab sample of the new Balenciaga B. ($82 CAD/30ml) and I can see it becoming a new favourite. It is a woody aromatic scent that is sharply green with incredible woody tones. Oh and imagine that… more violet. It also includes lily of the valley in the top notes which I am quickly realizing is included in many of my favourite perfumes. Notes are:

Top: Lily of the valley, violet leaves and green accords of edamame peas

Heart: Orris and cedar

Base: Ambrette seed and cashmere wood.

Past Favourite

My signature scent in my late teens and early twenties was Dior Tendre Poison which was a beautiful floral. Notes were:

Top: Galbanum and tangerine

Heart: Freesia and orange

Base: Sandalwood and vanilla.

This was before I was a bit of a perfume junkie and I would usually only own it alone at any given time. I think I went through probably 4 bottles through the years as I wasn’t an everyday scent wearer back then. Since I wasn’t into the fragrance scene the fact that it had been discontinued went completely unnoticed by me until years later after I had become a bit of a fumehead. I decided I ought to have my signature scent replenished in my stash again. Imagine my horror to discover it had been discontinued and so long prior that any hope of finding a bottle was dashed. This still breaks my heart. Especially considering the last bottle I owned I threw in the trash after my basset hound chewed the lid and I could not get it open for the life of me to save the precious juice. I thought I could just repurchase. Queue the violins.

If you want to check out some new fragrances hitting the shelves this fall then please check out my Fall Fragrance Guide that I just posted last week! I would love for you to share your comments there on what you think of some of the new scents.

So what are your all time favourite scents? I’d love to hear and discover some new scents to look in to.
