A top thoracic surgeon committed suicide two weeks after he was divorced from his wife.

According to The Daily Voice, Dr. Robert Ashton (above) jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge at around 8:40 a.m. on Saturday.

The 52-year-old had just split from his wife Dr. Jennifer Ashton, chief women's health correspondent for ABC News.

The pair lived across the street from each other in Fort Lee, New Jersey, which is in the shadow of the bridge. They had two teenage children.

On Sunday, Jennifer shared a heartfelt tribute to her ex in a Facebook post, saying he "helped so many and we will remember his warmth generosity and kindness."

Though she didn't say what drove her ex to suicide, the TV personality said his death should serve as a wakeup call to all those with a loved one battling depression.

Robert had been a thoracic surgery director at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, and chief thoracic surgeon at Hackensack University Medical Center.

The surgeon's body was recovered at Hazard's Dock in Palisades Interstate Park shortly after he jumped.

Just awful. Our hearts go out to his loved ones as they get through this tragedy.
