Job Search Strategies

Description: Learn more about the crucial steps in the job search process. This workshop addresses untapped resources and services available to job seekers, job-hunting on the Internet, and using our own network to your advantage.
Online Orientation / Intake
When: Tue, May 19-22, 9am – 11am and 1pm-3pm

Description: Online Orientation – Orientation is available online from any internet based computer at: www.opp-inc.org/ orientation. Daily walk-in for online orientation and intake begins at 9:00am-11:00am and 1:00pm-3:00pm in the Resource Center. Please bring your valid state/government photo ID and Social Security card. Also, complete and print the Common Intake Form Application. You must also register with the Virginia Workforce Connection site at: www.vawc.virginia.gov. Upon completion of orientation, you must register for an intake session.
Group Certification/Charting Your Course Presentation
When: Tue, May 19, 9:00am – 10:30am
Where: One-Stop Workforce Center, 861 Glenrock Road #223, Norfolk, VA 23502
Description(To attend, you must complete all prior steps discussed in Orientation and Intake.) Group Certification is now first- come- first-served. It is scheduled on Tuesday starting at 9:00; arrival time 8:30 and, Thursday starting at 1:00 with arrival time at 12:30. For those interesting in funding for training, following group certification is the required workshop: Charting Your Course Sponsored by VTC/EOC and OppInc. Employability and career advancement are often the reasons for returning to school. Ensure you receive the maximum benefit by learning how to choose a program wisely and structuring a plan for success. This session will also include tips on making a smooth transition back to school.
GED – Adult Basic Education (ABE)
When: Tuesday, May 19 and Thursday, May 21; 9am-12pm

Description: This program prepares the learner for success in a GED program. The ABE instructor will be available every Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Job Corps Information Sessions – Tidewater Area

Description: Job Corps is currently recruiting young adults between the ages of 16 through 24 for its comprehensive vocational training program. Job Corps helps young adults learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and gain real world skills needed to succeed. Training is available in many rapidly growing career areas, such as certified nursing, carpentry, culinary arts, auto repair, electrical, and welding.
Best of all, Job Corps is government sponsored and is FREE-OF CHARGE for those who meet the income eligibility requirements.

NOTE: Attendees are asked to observe a dress code that includes button or Polo-type shirts, slacks, belts and shoes. Ladies are asked to wear a dress, skirt or slacks with a blouse and shoes. Organizers are asking program applicants not to wear jeans, sneakers or shorts.

Description: Want to feel confident at your next job interview? This workshop teaches you how!
