Part Two –  Creating A Compelling Future

If you can name any inspirational world leader, you will likely be able to tell their story, and part of that story would be their vision.  They are either looking at “what is” right now, not liking what they see, and setting out to change things for the future; or they have a great imagination and simply are creators at heart.  Having said that, simply having a vision is not sufficient to create a compelling future.   Without action and certain steps, certainly in business, it’s either not going to happen, or it’s going to happen so slowly it will be a more arduous journey than it needs to be.

A leader must be capable of creating a compelling future, that’s not to say they have to do this on their own, but if they recognise the steps, and more importantly why those steps are needed, then success is likely to be happier, swifter and more effective.   This is borne out by the Centre For Creative Leadership’s report , which quotes an IBM study which says the most important skill for a leader is creativity.  In the CIPD Report in February 2014, Fresh Thinking in Learning and Development: innovation, ideation and intuition are all identified as vital skills for organisations to nurture.   In this part I discuss the different facets of the creativity process and why creating a compelling future is necessary for an organisation to be inspirational.

The topics covered in part two are:

Developing a clear vision

Communicating and engaging with others about your vision

Bridging the gap between the here and now and the future

Understanding the power and limitations of planning

Practice Letting Go

Developing resilience

Developing patience and trust

Keeping an open mind to opportunities

Living in the present while creating your future

Dealing with doubt positively

This fabulous video by Hildy Gottlieb talks about how we create a compelling future.  Substitute the vision for the “world”, with vision for the “business”
