When you hear Mason Noise’s music, you can tell it’s the product of a conglomeration of influences – Mason beginning his musical journey at 10 years old on classical guitar, and then transitioning to musical composition before finally bringing us the pop mix we hear today. It’s also clear that music lovers are completely into his style – his debut song, “Legend” received critical acclaim, as did the follow-up, “Blow the Doors Off”. Today, we’re to tell you all about his latest single, “Take a Seat”.

Noise told us all about this most recent work – he says, “’Take a Seat’ is unique and its old school. I try to make music to accommodate all musical tastes. Some may agree and some might not but I go with the vibe I get in the studio at the time and you have to take risks. And as for the album, that’s classified! But I will release it when the world is ready.” Keep up with Mason at http://itsmasonnoise.com/, and keep reading – there’s more to jump into in all the answers to the XXQs below.

XXQs: Mason Noise

PensEyeView.com (PEV): How would you describe your sound and what makes you stand out from others in your genre?

Mason Noise (MN): I think when you hear my music, you know it’s Mason Noise. It doesn’t fit into any genre. A lot of people have found it hard to put it in a particular box which I’m flattered by.

PEV: What kind of music were you into growing up? Do you remember your first concert?

MN: I loved all music. I never restricted myself as long as it was good music. But I was brought up on Motown and R&B. My first concert was actually a Girls Aloud concert I was forced to go to by some friends. But it was dope – they should get back together.

PEV: What was it like trying to break into the music scene when you first started? What was your first show like?

MN: Until I’m number 1 in the US and the UK I think I will consider myself as trying to break. But the first show I did had 800 packed into a club screaming in Newcastle. It was extremely scary but it also made me never look back.

PEV: What can fans expect from a live Mason Noise show?

MN: I won’t say too much. But it’s exactly that…a show.

PEV: What is the first thing that comes to mind when you step on stage to perform?

MN: I hope I remember the words…I’m joking. I’m just extremely focused. You have to be.

PEV: What is the best part about being on stage in front of an audience?

MN: To be able to put on a show I know people aren’t expecting.

PEV: What is the underlying inspiration for your music?

MN: There’s not a particular thing. I just try and evoke a certain emotion in each track whether its nostalgia or happy or anything emotional.

PEV: Thinking back to when you first started out, do you ever look back on your career and think about your earlier days and how you’ve arrived where you are today?

MN: Considering I started out from playing classical guitar at 10 years old, to then composing music for my GCSE school music projects to where I am now. You can definitely say I’m blessed. But it’s a lot of hard work too.

PEV: What’s one thing we’d be surprised to hear about you?

MN: I love the Chinese and Japanese cultures, and was a black belt in martial arts at 9 years old.

PEV: What happens when you hit a brick wall when writing? What are your methods to get over it?

MN: The key is being relaxed and comfortable. And It’s important to love yourself. So I try to do things to get back onto that trail of thought.

PEV: How do you think the industry has changed since you first started out?

MN: I’m still a baby as its only been over a year. But I hope now that I’m here, it starts to get better as I think we’ve fallen into a pattern of making music for sales and not for good music.

PEV: What can fans expect from your latest release?

MN: “Take a Seat” is unique and its old school. I try to make music to accommodate to all music tastes. Some may agree and some might not but I go with the vibe I get in the studio at the time and you have to take risks. And as for the album, that’s classified! But I will release it when the world is ready.

PEV: With all your traveling, is there one area you wish you could travel around and play that you have not yet?

MN: The World! But a USA tour is a dream I must make a reality.

PEV: How have all your friends and family reacted to your career?

MN: Some negative, some positive. I don’t think many on this earth believe in following your dreams. But I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for my parents, definitely.

PEV: What can we find you doing in your spare time, aside from playing/writing music?

MN: I try and keep myself fit and looking good in the gym and hitting the sauna and swimming pool is a pleasure of mine for sure.

PEV: Name one present and past artist or group that would be your dream collaboration. Why?

MN: Sammy Davies Jr. from The Rat Pack and today I’d love to work with Pharrell. Both are incredible artists which broke outside the box.

PEV: Is there an up and coming band or artist you think we should all be looking out for now?

MN: Mason Noise – I don’t think there’s anyone else making a bigger statement at the moment.

PEV: If playing music wasn’t your life (or life’s goal), what would you do for a career?

MN: I’d be pursuing acting. Was a big passion of mine as a child and I have done a lot of theater.

PEV: So, what is next for Mason Noise?

MN: Hopefully some summer shows in the US and UK. Then the world awaits…
