This month we continue our #BeAGrad chat with more tips for college students. In “Greek Life 101” we will demystify Greek Life and discuss the benefits of joining Greek Life organizations in college.

Eddie Francis is a career coach, blogger, and award-winning mass media professional. A job recruiting consultant with the Dallas-based company Career Resource Services, Eddie is the author and presenter of “The Black Greek Success Program”, which helps college members build their leadership skills through the lens of career preparation. To promote the contributions of Black Greeks to their communities, Eddie manages the Black Greek Success accounts on Twitter (@BGLOSuccess) and Pintrest. He is the Greek life contributor to HBCULifestyle.com, Eddie writes about career preparation for college students on his “From Lectures to the Livelihood” blog; and he has also written for The H.O.P.E. Scholarship, CareersinGovernment.com, Social-Hire.com, GreatBlackSpeakers.com, and LinkedIn.Eddie entered Greek life via Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in 1989 at Loyola University New Orleans. Eddie graduated from Loyola University New Orleans where he earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communication. In 2000, he was named one of New Orleans Magazine’s “30 People to Watch” and is a recipient of the 2014 President’s Volunteer Service Award. Eddie resides in Dallas where he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha’s Alpha Sigma Lambda graduate chapter. Follow him @eddiefrancis

Kouri C. Marshall, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is an accomplished political strategist and serves as a Senior Advisor and Director of External Affairs for DC Councilmember Tommy Wells. He is the founder of 3K1A Strategies LLC, a political and digital strategies firm specializing in political and non-profit advocacy campaigns across the United States. In addition to helping to deliver Virginia’s 13 electoral votes to the President, Kouri managed the campaigns local political affairs — serving as a direct liaison between the community at large and the campaign. Kouri graduated from Eureka College – President Ronald Reagan’s alma mater – where he was elected as he first African American Homecoming King in the 150 year history of the college. In 2013, the Eureka College Board of Trustees and Alumni Board named Kouri as the 2013 Eureka College Outstanding Young Alumni of the Year. Kouri completed his Masters of Public Administration degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and resides in Washington, D.C. Follow him @KouriCMarshall

College Summit Regional Co-Host: College Summit- Missouri’s Jacob Masek

Jacob Masek is a business marketing major from Saint Louis, MO. He is the social media intern for College Summit MO. He currently attends Truman State University where he will be a junior. At school, he is the president of the Golf Club. He is also in a social fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. In Beta he serves as the Public Relations chair where he monitors social media accounts and strives to maintain good relationships with other organizations on and off campus. He is also a member of the rush committee, anti-hazing committee, and alumni relations committee. His dream is to one day help the Cardinals (baseball) with their accounts. Dr. Zach Shirley is currently employed as the Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Texas A&M University-Commerce. His primary responsibilities include programming for the four Greek-lettered Councils (the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated, the Interfraternity Council, the College Panhellenic Council, and the Multicultural Greek Council) and the grant-sponsored African American Male Mentorship Program, a program established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.  Dr. Shirley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Paul Quinn College, a Master’s Degree in Higher Education/Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and a Doctorate in Higher Education from the University of North Texas. Dr. Shirley’s personal philosophy in regards to working with students is to inspire the students, so that they may, in turn, impact the world.  Follow him @SigmAquarian

Kezia M. Williams, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a community leader, young philanthropist, and social entrepreneur, who has experience working in the fields of nonprofit management and organizational development. She has used her skills to benefit local and national nonprofit organizations to include companies in major cities such as: the District of Columbia, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta.  Currently, Ms. Williams serves as Chair of Capital Cause, which is a DC-based nonprofit dedicated to getting young professionals involved in giving back to their communities. Her work with this organization has included growing the organization from five vested members to over 5,000 young professionals influenced by the Capital Cause message of employing young philanthropy to affect real change. Ms. Williams’ achievements have been recognized by EnVest Foundation who selected her as one of the 2010 National Capitol Region’s Top 40 Under 40 Young Professionals.  Ms. Williams is a proud alumna of Christopher Newport University, and is a native of Richmond, Virginia.
